Brought one of my 13 year old nephews to the farm yesterday. He played while I cut up trees. Shot the pellet gun and Red Ryder bb gun, rode the 4 wheeler, and unsuccessfully fished. Rain came in about 9:00 last night and has been slow and steady. Taking him back to town this morning.
Going to step out to the pavilion in a few minutes to see if any turkeys will gobble in this crappy, cold 36° rain. Coming back this afternoon as turkey season opens tomorrow. For the real wild turkeys, not the human kind! 😜

lots of work going to be going on next week as the farmers rush to the fields trying to make up for lost time. See the earlier you can plant the corn the better it usually yields and it dries down faster in the fall so it can be harvested....... just thought you should know this......

seems some of us need to be gainfully employed to keep the contributions to your social security checks coming...............
being a "single / 0 exemption" filer of taxes for many years, and income right about the US median average, prior to Trump's changes in the tax laws used to get some back, even if the government kept it in a "savings account" without paying interest for the year for me..................... now about a $20.00 per week increase in net pay reduced my refund status a little.........

Tax refund, what's that? Haven't gotten one in.....forever. That's in spite of claiming 0 deductions, "withhold at higher single rate", and an extra $40 withheld. That's all over now as the wife is also retired; we will now be making quarterly estimated payments.

We have Turkeys all over out here BadAve....... we get them in the yard occasionally....... corn fed birds they are......nice and fat....... the way we like em....... deep fat fry them in peanut oil out on the deck....... lots of barley pop to wash it down with..... country living at its finest......
