Port Arthur Texas man and his dog die in 2007
This is a very sad story about a new Corvette owner not being completely familiar with his new car.

Very Tragic, yet so avoidable if the owner's manual would of been read. There is a manual release handle for the driver and passenger doors next to the seat by the floor.

Not trying to be nasty, but you do know about the handles for manual operation of the doors on each side of each seat, right? Not to mention airmed's suggestion to take the top out. Very sad and tragic for this new owner and his dog, no question about that.

There was another thread not too long ago about a CFs members wife who got locked into their Corvette. They did not know about the manual release either. For a new C6 owner it can be easy to miss. Horrible way to go.

That's why you read the manual cover to cover so that you know about the manual release!

Very sad.
I would never sell one of mine to someone w/o showing them this very basic safety issue. I don't even let anyone ride w/o showing this to them, as well. This is not to shift blame to the seller, just my opinion. The buyer should read up and become familiar with the car, and it is his ultimate responsibility.

He could also popped the rear hatch for air. Might of been enough juice to do so?

It was a coupe. There are a lot of questions being asked about what really went wrong here. I did not know the gentleman but I have spoken to someone who did. All of his friends are shocked. There have been a lot of really good points brought up here about how this could have been avoided. I agree with the comment about leaving his dog 4 hours without checking on him and that when he returned to the car that the dog might have already been gone. This is just so sad. I hope that it never happens to anyone again for any reason.

Gee, my dog has been in a closed car for four hours. I better go check on the dog. I think I will get in the car and shut the door. Jeez.

Leaving the dog in the car for 4 hours is beyond terrible. Was the dog in the car with the windows shut??!!!??
This story is odd, to say the least.

If you are in a vert, you reach up and twist the unlock handle and the top pops open along the front edge. But of course the main thing is to use the manual release lever.

This isn't the first death of someone trapped in a car w/electric door latches, and sadly, probably won't be the last.
