stock ls3 c6 vs shelby gt500
came up to this guy on the way home and the roads were pretty clear so he takes off and I follow. Both runs were informal and he took off first. Unsure of year but it had the newer body style. I'll say that we were pretty even in top end with slight edge to the corvette in triple digits. But since he jumped both runs it was impossible to catch him with the space available. I know we all love our corvettes but those shelbys are wicked fast and look pretty good too.
On another note I ran a zl1 not too long ago and beat that car 4/4 times fairly easy top end. Which goes to show you that in real world the shelby is a bit quicker than the zl1. Anyway, thought I'd share with you all some of today's fun. Have a great day everyone!

What's your definition of top end speed? I believe both of your competitor friends are top speed limited, if they are stock, where our vettes are not.

My stock 2010 GT500 (540 hp) ran door to door with a ls3 auto from 50 to 100 with the vette starting to gain momentum at the top of 3rd gear. I had two passengers and hit it first. Extra weight or not I think the ls3 vette will pull past 100 on the 2010-2012 models. 2013-2014 your gonna need some mods, they are c6z fast from what I heard before I sold mine and moved into the corvette world.
I don't miss the shelby at all, it was a confused car. It was trying to be an all around 4 seat sports coupe but didn't really excel in any aspect. It should of concentrated more on getting power to the ground in a straight line, which it could barely do. I couldn't see out of it either, too many think pillars and small windows. Made me nervous driving in traffic.
So it sounds correct to me for your encounter.

I played tag with a Porsche this past week, on the interstate. I am not sure what his top end was, but he gave up when we went from 80 to 150, in a hurry, and I was pulling away. Fastest I have been in this one. Now that I have less life left, I tend to appreciate it more.

Whatever....cars racing up to 150 mph on the interstateis is just asking for something bad to happen, in so many ways.
The least would be to have the car impounded and some jail time.
Really worth the impulse?

Not to hijack, but I swear I was the guy in the C6,(I wasn't apparently as I am in Oklahoma not Texas), but I pulled up beside a white GT 500 and light turned green and I got on it but he didn't take off, we got to the next light and he said "if I didn't have my daughter with me we would have ran them" She looked about 20, not some little kid... I just wondered how good of a race that would have been.

I like them both, for different reasons, my gt 500 is a 2010, and no, its not stock, neither is my vette... different cars with different purposes, both fun to drive

On HWY 40 coming home the other week I was beside a MBZ 4dr 5-something or other, nice looking white with nice wheels, black windows. I stayed beside him and thought what the heck, deserted Hwy so why not, he didn't bite so I drove on.
Looked it up on the inner-web and they have about 550HP, probably would have embarrassed me

I totally agree. Back in the dark ages, when I was street racing, the races happened between stop lights. You have to be a perfect idiot to be roaring around on public highways at speeds in excess of 100 mph. BTW, to the O.P., if you had to go to 100 mph+ to drive around him, then you DIDN'T WIN THE RACE! Grow up.

street light races are a thing of the past. these cars today make too much power to gauge a winner in 1000' on the street. scary times we live in lol
