Secret to getting 30+ MPG . . .
Let the wife drive!
She cruses down the highway at a steady 70 MPH (and got 30.2 MPG in our 06 coupe) on our trip to Jacksonville Beach, Fl.
Also, I recently had all of the hoses and belts changed for the car's 10th birthday. I really enjoyed the feeling that they were not going to give me any problems on the road. (The car is an 06 which was built in the 4th quarter of 05).

We got 30.6 mpg in our trip to Florida several months ago. ('13 coupe with the cruise set at 70.)

I have learned my lesson. Would rather get 1 mpg than let my wife drive.
jk, she can drive it on trips, but not in town on her own. She has no idea where the nose or tires are.

I was driving back to Portland from Seattle one afternoon and decided to relax and let the traffic go by and didn't want to be changing speed when approaching slower traffic. So I set the cruise control for 68 mph on the posted 70 mph I-5. I filled up in Olympia at a gas station right off the on-ramp.
By the time I was crossing over the bridge into Oregon the reading was 31.8 mpg avg. But on a typical highway drive on cruise control at 78 mph it will get about 28 mpg.
I think they will do 36 mpg at 50 mph . . . the real challenge is actually driving that slow for so long
I drove to the coast Saturday morning, around 10:00 am. There was some accordion traffic on hwy 26 before the turn out to hwy 6 to Tillamook. This lasted until we were about 3 miles from the east side of the coast range. Then it settled at 50 mph. The line up of cars was longer than I could see around so I settled in for the long and boring follow the idiot, err, leader
I can see the mileage climb, right up until a passing lane comes up and I decide to get the blood flowing and wake up. Vroooommm and the mileage drops like a rock.
So while we can drive 480 miles between fuel stops on the highways when we are on a long road trip, our daily drives will probably be filled with spirited drives through twisting roads with no concern for mileage.

I can always get much better mileage than my wife in any car. She's not real smooth driving.

The day I bought the car one of the first things out of her mouth was "I wanna do 150(mph)"

As far as mpg's, my '07 A6 just saw 30.1 for the first time. But I had to put no ethanol premium in the tank to get that. At the difference in the price I lost money on that deal.

I kept the speed to 50 on new car break in across Missouri and filled in Colorado at 34.1 but only got that the one time. Lower grade of fuel will drop mpg, I found that on a trip to Alaska but never got below 30. In town or your foot in it subtract at least 5

Traveled from Atlanta, GA to High Point, NC and back and got 32mpg with cruise set at 70mph. Hardly used AC so that helped.
Just took a trip to Charlotte and back last week. Got 28-29 with AC blasting the whole way.

Oh yeah babe, if you came to my neck of the woods last week you had to have the AC pumping.

We got 28.5mpg averaged over 1500miles with some heavy foot action over the on ramps to the interstate and several high speed runs. so that was good. 2006 6speed.
then last week I got 35mpg instant... over the entire 60mile round trip to renew my plates. it was a cool humid day, not sure if that made a difference.

Had the Vette out last week for a 300 mile cruise. The speeds were 75 on the highway, 20-55 on the local mountain roads. I averaged 29.7 mpg on the trip. When I first got it new, in 2007, we went from NY to NC and back. I averaged 30+ mpg on some of those legs. The speed limits were 75mph in some spots too. I didn't buy it for the mileage, but, I'm not complaining about it either.
