Default Keep my 05 C6 or go to 08z06?

I have owned my 05 base 45k mi for 5 weeks now. I have put just over $1k into it (custom exhaust, CAi, chrome rims, nav radio, diablo Intune). The dealer called today and asked if I would want to trade it in for a 2008 z06 stock lz2 with 5k miles. It looks brand new. I bought the 05 for $22k out the door (tax, title, etc). The dealer is asking $38,500 for the 08. Any opinions? It may be a moot point as it could be sold by now but am I crazy for passing this up. I love the 05 but the 08z was more fun to drive. The only drawback for me was the fixed roof. Sorry, I'm still wondering if I'm passing on something great. Dealer made many great points as to resale in the future, etc..Anyone go from a base to a c6 or a c6 back to a base? Anyone regretted it? Dealer would give me full value I paid and maybe a little more for what I had done to the 05. If I keep the 05, my plan was to get it to about 500hp and be happy.

Its probably long gone at that price. I had an 08 Z51 for 6 months before I got my Z06. In hindsight I'm kicking myself in the *** for that. I thought I would miss the targa top... I dont miss it at all.

I can't answer your question as to if you should trade, (I have my own issues of should I trade for a vert or a GS, LOL)

but I would like to know how you did all those mods for just a $1K?
you must have a great source to get you parts super cheap!
lucky you!

and good luck on deciding to trade or not

I was going to ask the same thing. There's no way you could get all that done for close to a grand, unless you literally stole the parts.

I'm kinda laughing but it was close to $1k (don't tell my wife I went a little over). Some of the parts came from members here in the for sale section.
Chrome Rims $300 (Craigslist)
Nav Radio $250 (forum member)
VX axle back racing exhaust/chrome tips $190 (local exhaust shop)
K&N cai $200 (Summit Racing - used summit bucks I had saved)
Diablo $300 (forum member)

I guess I just need to mentally justify spending an extra $16k getting the 08. It was nicer, but just not sure $16k nicer. I'm thinking resale if or when I get rid of it for something nicer in the future. I went to a local speed shop and a cam and headers would get my 05 over 500hp for around $3k. But in the end it is older and with more miles.

Killer price on the z unless it's trashed.

If it checks out, I think I'd do it.

Sounds like a good deal to me if you can afford it. Might want to check on insurance rates first though.

I had a 2008 atomic orange Z06---JUST LOVED THAT CAR! The performance is out of this world. The only problem is that once you get a taste of that 505 Hp you can never settle for anything less.............your next car after that will be another C6 Z06 or a C7 Z06.

The heads will have to be checked in the Z and could turn in to about $2K +- repair, but after that you've got a "BEAST"!!!

Sounds like a great price for the Z if it checks out...

Last year my dealer called and asked if I wanted to trade my 05 for a Z06.

They wanted 41k for the Z06 and Offered 28k for my 05. My Vette had lower miles 14k than the Z at 26k. I looked at it but passed. I prefer a Vert with auto. The only reason I could see to buy would have been for the HP and that's not important to me so it was a quick no.

They called this spring about a 14 C7 vert that I took for a spin. Had it been the right color, I would have made that deal.

I don't see the Z having better re-sale than a base down the road. There was a recent thread noting that the only C6 Vettes for sale seemed to be the GS, Z06s and ZR1s.

Default z06 any day!

No question z06 any day over standard c6, especially an 05 c6. Just do your due diligence on the z06. If you want the wind in your hair, just roll down the windows. While you are at it you will hear the exhaust baffles open up and try not to grin too much.

If you can afford it and you wanted a Z all along, do it! I wanted a Z all along, but I cannot afford one. Once I can, I'm trading in the 05 for a C6Z or a 427. Something about that 7.0 that wont go away for me.

I have been faced with the same thoughts.. I have an 05 with 70k miles.. It has 455rwhp and is an animal. But I want widebody and everything. The longer you wait, the less your 05 is going to be worth to a dealer. I think black book value for my car is like 18k. It has plummeted in the past year or so...

Congratulations on your new to you Z. What are your impressions compared to your base model?

First impressions in 24 hours:

1- Obviously the horsepower. Even with the traction control on, I have broke the rear tires free. Mostly because Im still driving like it's the base model. I just have to realize not as much gas is needed when coming off the clutch.

2 - Drastically stiffer suspension. It's probably great on the track but if you get on a road that is in need of repair, it's gonna bounce you around. Driving on the same roads as my base, it is a lot stiffer.

3 - Wife's biggest noticeable difference is that the z06 is easier for her to drive. She is not an expert at a manual but can do it. With the extra horsepower and beefier clutch, she now shifts smoothly and the jerkyness is gone.

All for all, pleasantly surprised. The wider body is sexy and I think it turns a few more heads than my c6 did.
