Default DIY Door Armrest Pads..

Just finally finished up my door armrest pads. I wasnt going to buy some of the ones that just attached with 3M or velcro, and I didn't feel like dropping tons of $$$ for new 2012 door panels. So I went to JoAnn Fabric and got some Basswood strips, 1" foam, and some nice black vinyl. Then off to Home Depot for some machine screwI, some lock washers, and some washers. Finally, AutoZone for some fabric/upholstery adhesive spray.

Here is the finished product. I dont do upholstery, and this is what I envisioned doing I think it looks pretty darn good considering some of ther corners are pretty tricky.

That turned out pretty good.

Probably feel better then the OEM one also. Padding almost non-existent.

What happened to the OEM ones? Seems your car is too new to have the interior wearing out.

They look great. I bought mine, and they had the Corvette stitched in to the side. I ended up removing the sticky tape and using Velcro.

They didn't come out till the 2012 models. Mine is a 2011. Could buy them for $100-$200, but I wanted something that wasn't out there for purchase.

Looks good. I would like to have the the taper closer to the existing.

Took some ***** to go with the screws.

The passenger side is alittle longer then the OEM design but he wasn't trying to replicate that exactly anyways.

I'd rather use screws or studs then to screw around with double sided foam tape or Velcro.

Just the screws being rather final if the idea failed.

For a novice in the upholstery field the OP did a great job!

I saw some really nice black suede at the store too. I actually had the vinyl in one hand, and the suede in the other. I liked the high end look of the suede, but I was worried about the wearing and care for the material. Have you had good luck with the wear and cleaning of them? I just figured that the vinyl I got would be easy to wipe down and put some leather protectant on it to shine it up.

Also, thanks for the compliments to everyone, I appreciate it.

I take another approach while on long trips, I carry a small pillow and wedge in between myself and the arm rest. My wife will have one too and we share it over the center console.

Very comfortable.
