2010 Gs or 2013 427?
First off, new to the stie. Its great by the way! Lots of info.
Next my first question, I have the option of a 2010 GS convertible with 6k miles, you can eat off the headers! 45,000.00 or a 2013 427 6k miles, dealer car with ext warranty # 40 or 47 of the 500 I think 60,000.00 Price isn't whats putting me off, just some grumbling I've read about the LS7 motors. Both great looking cars, so I'm throwing this out to the experts, what would you do???
Thanks in advance!

That's a pretty good price, I would say.

I have not had any issues with the LS7 and no one that I know personally has had any issues either.

I drove Z06s at Spring Mountain and while over time I am sure they have had some issues, in my five times there, I never saw or heard of one and drove some cars with over 35K track miles on the clock.

Just so you know, you're well within C7 territory at $60K. Obviously if you prefer C6 styling go for that. GS and 427 are both beautiful cars, but if I was going used, I would probably look at the $45K range for a mint 2010 or so Z06. Plenty of them out there for that price.

Folks, I'm pretty sure markk22 is well aware of what cars he can afford. He is asking our opinion on these two options.
Personally? I'd go for the 427 in a heartbeat - again, if money is a non-issue (remember, the 427 will be thirstier). The 427 is the penultimate performing convertible in Corvette history up to the newest Z06. It has more tech bundled into it than merely the engine, BTW.
It happens to be my personal favorite of all the C6 model line. If I had the bread and a wife that wouldn't divorce me on the spot, I'd trade in my base C6 for a 427 yesterday.
EDIT: You got pics of these two cars? What color are they?

No regrets. Not hating on the GS; just wasn't what I wanted.

What to do?
I have a '10 GS vert. I like it very much, but if given the chance I'd get the 427. I just picked up a 15 Tahoe so that 427 will need to wait.

Sorry guys but I'd get the GS and supercharge it. Then I'd buy some ZR1 wheels.
The GS, although missing the carbon fiber body panels, still has the same widebody stance as the 427 and with a supercharged LS3 the hp is close to the LS7. I love the 427 and the LS7, and would have bought one myself if not for the many reported engine issues. Thats why I bought a GS with the LS3. No regrets.
In fact, I won't consider the C7s due to the total engine failures already reported in that car as well (among other issues). But I digress.

I had the same dilemma 2 yrs ago before I bought a brand new 2013 GS. I was undecided between a GS or a Z06. Money wasn't an issue for me.
The truth of the matter is what are you going to use the car for and what is more important to you.
For me, I wanted to take the top off, I wanted the wide body and the better gas mileage of the two with the cheaper insurance.
Why? Because the truth of the matter is that although I do drive the car fast on occasions, I will admit I mostly drive it to work and to enjoy evening dates with my wife. For that I didn't see the need for the extra HP.
I would say that collectibility wise, the 427 is the better choice.
At the end of the day, decide for the car that suits you the best as an individual.

IMOP>>>Get the GS you save 15k and get a highly reliable LS3 engine.
Avoid the 427 valve train engine failure. The valve seats are non concentric with the valve guides...cause the engine to implode. If you want to risk your resale value of 60k and have to have it ...get that checked and fixed right away..
Or go buy a C7, but then you have to deal with direct injection and inevitably valve carbon build up...again the LS3 is port injected and has no such issues.
Stick with the GS for lower cost, better reliability, good looks and speed you can use....IMOP>>>

By the 427 its more fun. I have both a 2008 Z06 and a 2013 427 the 427 is slightly heaver but its ever bit as quick as the Z06. In the long run the 427 will be much more collectible and the smile factor is 10X over the GS.

GS or 427
Thanks for all the opinions guys, I really appreciate the wealth of knowledge that's here.
To be clear I was looking at the 427 conv. 60th anniversary.
I love the body style of the C6 over the C7 but thats just my opinion.
I was just trying to get a feel from members who may have had or driven both cars (convertibles). I doubt I will do much aftermarket mods other than headers and exhaust. I'm at a point where I want to drive and not tinker all weekend. lol Been there and done that with a 70 nova,
66 Elcamino, and still currently with a 67 Chevelle SS.
Thanks for the input all!
