Default Lube Mode

Was wondering for people who are not daily drivers and store their C6 for the winter or other long periods of time, if they have ever used the Lube Mode feature. I stumbled upon a YouTube video of a guy stating if you store the vehicle for a period of time there is a feature where you hold the gas pedal down and clutch (not sure on autos) while pushing the start button the engine will continue to crank until you let go of the clutch allowing oil to flow up to the top of the engine.

All modern vehicles do this, if you hold the pedal to the floor and crank it will shut off the injectors. Clutch Position is irrelevant though I wouldn't let it go because the cranking motor on an engaged clutch will move the car.

This procedure does work if you care to use it

I wasn't aware of this. Cheers!

I tried this on my C5 a few months ago after a cam swap, and the car fired up immediately like normal Maybe the TPS was at 99% or something so the feature didn't engage, but I was frustrated even though it probably didn't hurt anything. I started pulling the fuel pump relay after that experience to be sure the car wouldn't start.

Hmm that seams odd, usually straight to the floor should enable fuel cut if you engage the pedal before cranking.

I know of this feature, but don't use it. I watch the oil pressure gauge closely when I fire it up after it's winter nap, and every time (5 times now), there's good oil pressure on the gauge more or less instantly. Actually, I watch the gauge every time I start it. And, over the lifetime of your ownership, how many times are you going to do this after storage start? Maybe 10, 20? Even if it was 50, I can't image that on a modern engine this would do much to age it prematurely. The extra wear on the starter motor might be a different story, but I'm sure the pushback on that would be the starter is a lot cheaper to replace than the engine.

I did just this today when I started my car, Held the throttle to the floor, Depressed the brake pedal and let it crank over for 15 seconds, lifted off the gas and it started up a second later

This feature is designed to clear a flooded engine. Don't try to use it to pre-lube a motor.

It wont hurt anything, Its designed to be a fuel cut for whatever reason you may need it for. I wouldn't do it for no reason but it wont hurt anything. The oil pump will build oil pressure, no fuel is dumped. The only thing its hard on is the starter if you do it excessively.

You can put the car in neutral.

Think this is actually called "Flood Start" in some owners manuals.
I do it whenever the car is started after a long period (ie winter), or work on the oiling system (oil tank or oil cooler swap, etc), for 2 cycles (about 10 sec each), letting the starter cool about 30 sec in between. **** perhaps, but...hey!
I'm guessing it also wouldn't hurt (costs nothing) after oil changes, even though I prefill the oil filter.
