Loud tapping sound comming from the engine

Melting Slicks
Hi, I just got back from a cross country trip following Rt. 66. The Vette ran beautifully until I got home. After cleaning it and putting in the garage for a day, I started it and a loud noise came out of the engine. Kind of like the tappets and increase with an increase in revs. The car is a stock 2010 C6 Ls3. I had it flat-bedded to the local dealer and ther it sits for now. They think that the noise is coming from the bottom of the engine. I checked the oil just about everty day on the trip and it was fine but when this noise started, it was down a quart. No leak or blue clouds. Any thoughts? Thanks

Flat bedded it to the dealer 10 days ago and they haven't gotten around to the car yet except to tell me that they think that the sound is coming from the bottom of the engine. Since it's still on warranty, I have few options except to wait. Told them to keep the car all winter and have it ready in April.

What brand(s) of gasoline have been used in the car?
How many miles?
The C6 is rather sensitive to any tilt fore-aft or left-right, when checking the oil level. I don't fully trust the dipstick unless I'm parked in my dead-level garage.
Also, best to have the oil above 180'F, check the oil between 5-15 minutes after shutdown.
That's the only way I can get consistent readings.

Glad it's fixed. Did they replace the injectors? I would think with sequential injection, a definite miss/rough idle would be felt from malfunctioning injectors.

I've tested both ways and there is a difference but it's pretty small on our car, maybe 1/4 qt or less.
The procedure I gave (from memory, so ...) is the GM method for getting accurate readings when trying to determine oil consumption.

GM says that checking the oil cold can give a false (high) reading, because cold oil can creep on the dipstick. Hmmm...
