Loud tapping sound comming from the engine
Hi, I just got back from a cross country trip following Rt. 66. The Vette ran beautifully until I got home. After cleaning it and putting in the garage for a day, I started it and a loud noise came out of the engine. Kind of like the tappets and increase with an increase in revs. The car is a stock 2010 C6 Ls3. I had it flat-bedded to the local dealer and ther it sits for now. They think that the noise is coming from the bottom of the engine. I checked the oil just about everty day on the trip and it was fine but when this noise started, it was down a quart. No leak or blue clouds. Any thoughts? Thanks

Drifting
Could be so many things from a loose bolt, broken flex plate to a spun rod bearing.
The ls is typically a great motor.
Without a video it will only be a guessing game for us

Tapping from the engine one day when I started it nothing the day before so I put some Rislone oil treatment in it and the noise went away and never returned do this before they start tearing things apart it was a $12 fix

The oil being down a quart is bothersome. It shouldn't use any at all between changes, so I suspect that the oil usage is related to your engine noise.

no oil stains on the driveway or garage floor. The car ran smooth and strong for over 600 miles until I cleaned and washed it and put it in the garage. When I started it 48 hours later, the loud tapping noise started.. Right now it sits in the dealers lot waiting its turn in service.

It could be one of the plug wires. The tapping sound could be the spark from either the coil or spark plug end. I had a similar situation where I was
Certain it was from a valve tapping, when I pulled the fuel rail cover off the wire to one of the coils had popped off. Reconnected and no more tapping.

Melting Slicks
Or it could be a lifter that bled down.
Sometimes if a lifter is under pressure from a valve spring, (Valve Open) the oil inside bleeds off. When this happens the lifter will make a tapping noise until filled back with engine oil. Sometimes several minutes.
Hope it is a minor thing...

I hope it's only a plug wire. Since it's at the dealer, you may not be able to check it. I had a wire come loose and it sounded like a clicking sound from the spark jumping. I had to tug slightly on the wires to find the loose one.

Flat bedded it to the dealer 10 days ago and they haven't gotten around to the car yet except to tell me that they think that the sound is coming from the bottom of the engine. Since it's still on warranty, I have few options except to wait. Told them to keep the car all winter and have it ready in April.

Otherwise, you'll still be waiting for it come next July.

I live in the Buffalo, NY area so I usually put my car in storage in early November. So,if I can't get it back on the road asap, the dealer might as well have it as long as it takes. Might even save me the cost of the storage. I just want it fixed correctly.
