To "PCV Catch Can" or not ????
I did a search but most brought up vendors so asking the forum members.
I have read about how they work, seems logical and sensible. But also seems more likely that a forced induction motor would need it more so that a stock LS3. is it overkill or just the "want to add it" that Corvette owners seem to have ?????
Then the price question, they are all over the board on this matter, from cheapies on EBay at $20 or so, all the way to the $300 range.
I understand the theory and that you need one with the baffle screens to collect the oil but that is a pretty big spread in $$$$. Probably go in the middle of the road, Corvette Mods has one for $50
So I ask the "smarter than I" crowd, does a stock LS 3 really need one Thanks

Sure there is a catch...
The factory system works if you don't modify any part of it the catch can will prove me rite and waste your money you'll find a little oil in there and is not going to improve anything you'll eventually get rid of it.

I would ask why not put one on? There are no negative effects to having one. Fact it does catch oil that would be reintroduced to the engine and burned off. Fact my exhaust tips are a ton cleaner since the catch can.
This one is by far the best cost 160.00 or less easy to install looks good does no harm and does have some positive effect. Go for it and don't look back

When I did my CAI I did notice inside the mani was shiny with a slight oil residue and yes my tips get quite black after a good drive... I will be installing one next spring...Z's going into hibernation within 2 weeks. One doesn't need to spend 180 bucks.. it all depends on the looks and materials used in the manufacturing.. 50 buck ones will do the same thing if that is all one desires.

Mine is about 3/4 full when I empty it while doing a yearly oil change.
This is with 'normal' spirited driving. VaraRam on a LS2.
I bought the Elite Engineering catch can. Reasonable price and well made.
Easy DIY install and certainly doesn't hurt anything. Just adds another minor maintenance item.

It is a dump every oil change, if not sooner, kinda thing. IMO. I've had them on two previous vehicles.
It's on my list for this vehicle as well.

I have an issue on my supercharged vette where ever since the headers were installed and the boost was increased, I get black specs all the rear fascia. I wonder if the tune is out of whack or if a catch can is necessary.

In searching I found an old forum post about this where Dano23 thoroughly explained the whole deal, as usual, very good write up. In it he stated that to really be efficient there should be 2 cans, one on the dirty side and one on the clean side
WAY beyond my intellectual capacities but informative none the less, so thanks Dano23 again

Overkill in my opinion. It cost more than the benefit. it is something to sell to guys that need to have everything. GM does not think it is necessary even on Direct Injection where it does build up on the valves.

You don't need it. Do you still want it anyway?
Some people change their synthetic oil every 3,000 miles. To each his own. Personally, I do not need the extra maintenance and if the engine lasts 200,000 miles, that will be enough for me.

I put one on my 08 a few ago and I drain it about twice a year and I get about a shot glass of oil from it.Only takes about 3 minutes to drain it.I think I got my from CCA for about $110.00....PS: I have never tracked my vette,i just get on it once in a while to clean the spark plugs and blow the suut out of the engine..
