Default Wow! Car and Driver rips the C7 Z51

Well I just finished reading Car and Driver's long term test of the C7. In a nutshell it was a disaster, glitches, transaxle leaks and a complete engine replacement. Kind of surprised me since my GS has been a real sweetheart but mine has only 20k miles in five years so I'm not sure what to make of it all.

Although I like the look of the C6 better than the C7 the C7 has a lot of cool stuff on it. It's going to be very interesting to see how the 2015 and later C7's hold up. More than a bit disappointing.

With all the problems the C7 has, and the overheating issues of the C7Z, keeping the GS after all and just doing FI on that seems more of a reality than a though.

With only one exception, a leased 97 Catera, our GM vehicles have done very well. I was expecting a smoother launch for the C7.

Note: The Catera was a mess. They fixed everything but we really got to know the dealer's service staff. In retrospect I should have used the lemon law.

If I remember correctly, Car and Driver had two engines fail -- the first in their silver long-term tester, the second in a yellow stand-in Stingray at Virginia International Raceway. GM blamed faulty oil filters (allegedly came apart internally, sending shrapnel into the engines).

Automobile and Motor Trend have had issues with the Stringray or Z06, too, as my german-car-driving buddies are quick to point out. But hey, the C7's interior is a lot nicer.

Yup, comes in real handy to enjoy as you have to sit long term in the car waiting for the flat bed to come haul the car back to the dealer for repairs.

consumers reports listed the c7 #5 on the least reliable list in the December issue. #1 is the fiat 500.

And even that will be uncomfortable. I think an s2000 has a bigger cockpit than a C7.

I sat in a C7 convert on the showroom floor but it felt cramped to me after just getting out of my C6 convert. The dealer tried real hard to try to get me to test drive it and offered a generous discount on it but just could not get the feeling that it was worth the time and effort to do it.

I have owned vettes from all the first 6 generations but for the first time in over 50 years of driving them I have no desire to get the C7 generation even now in the 3rd year since release. In the past I was always chomping on the bit to get the latest new generation vette but I have decided to stick with my C6.

One could say the problems reported are just bad luck and anomalies, but sure seems like every time a magazine gets their hands on a C7 something goes wrong. At some point you have to reject the notion it is just a coincidence. I'm sure there are many, many problem free C7s out there, but the trend is troubling.

I have my own issues with GM based on my experience with my Cobalt and my CTS, but for the sake of the workers who depend on a GM paycheck, I hope they get their heads out of their rear ends and start focusing on fixing their engineering and quality problems and their customer service. That being said, as close as I've come to dumping the GS because of the other problems I've had with GM, I just can't deny how much I love that car.

The 2005 C6 owners took a similar beating, when they first came out.

Once they get the new model kinks out, it will be a another great vette

This is good for C6 values though! Sad to see so many problems with the C7! Hope GM works out the kinks soon!

^^ Preach. New engine, new interior, new new new. new A8 having issues now. Give it 6-12 mo to work out the glitches. C5 and up Vettes are notoriously reliable with few exceptions.

I don't know why people are happy about this. It's not like it makes your car any better. I don't think I've seen a forum with more C7 haters than the Corvette Forum. Strange.

Yes! ...and it needs to be for the good of the brand and for all of us who love it! Whether I completely like the style or not, I want the C7 to be very successful
