Default Another fuel tank removal story...

I was having the common fuel smell when tank is more than half full so I decided to take on replacing the fuel sending unit myself. Even after reading all the threads and watching the YouTube videos, this job is a pain in the ***. I have it apart now but somehow I broke the black lock ring on the crossover tube in half. Does anyone know if you buy this part? Do I need to buy a new crossover?

First off my hat's off to you for tackling this.
From everything I'd ever read on this job you're right, it is a PITA & why Chev charges so much for this job. All labor.

If anyone knows of a part's available it'd be Gene @ Cultrag: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...r-service.html

Update: Emailed Gene today and the plastic lock ring is not sold separately. I'll be buying a new crossover tube now. Let this be a warning to other do-it-yourself people that plastic ring can be expensive.

I wouldn't even think about trying something like that. I can screw up even the simplest repairs.

It definitely is a PITA job. I had to do it twice because I didn't get the tubes hooked up properly.

I want to also say good going buddy! That's so great that you're tackling this project yourself. Keep up the good work!

Common problem with C6 vettes due to a cheap *** plastic fitting on top of the driver side fuel tank. My son had his replaced under GMPP a year ago. Knock on wood but I haven't had that problem with my 07 vert or ZR1 so far.

Update 2: The new crossover tube won't arrive until Monday, so it will have to stay on jack stands to the following weekend. Since I have it apart I'm going to replace the fuel level sensor and the tubes that run to the fuel pump. Hopefully having many new parts it will go together much easier.

If I ever get the dreaded fuel smell I'll be tackling this job as well!
Kudo's to you! The only thing we can hope for is that the Feds deem this a recall and it forces GM to reimburse you for the parts involved in this retrofit? Are there any pic's you could post?
Cheers

I just had mine done at the dealer. They broke that part and had to order it.

My 17 year old Grand Marquis never had any problems like this car!
