2015 C6 of the Year Finalist

Default Got some bad news today. UGH!

I posted earlier in the year that the company where I have worked for the past 23 years was not doing well. There was some layoffs and several in our IT dept were out of work. I kept my job for the time being, but just got news that there are more layoffs at the end of the year. My job is one of them. The head of the IT dept will be the only one left.

Sadly I will have to sell my beautiful Corvette, so if you're looking to buy a nice ride. Check out the for sale section in the next day or so.

That's too bad, but with IT skills you should be able to find another job without too much trouble, start looking as soon as possible, don't wait for the doors to close. I lived through it with the auto industry in the 70s. Good luck.

Sorry to hear the news my Tarheel brother. Good luck, and hopefully something will come along soon that allows you to keep your Vette.

Not a good feeling when news like that hits home. Look hard and look fast. There is a great job out there waiting for you. I just know it.

23 years. That's a long time. Hopefully you get a nice severance package.

what kind of work do you do? The IT market is RED hot right now in the midwest. I work for a consulting firm in Chicago and we have 2 pages of openings (all in the Chicago area)

Unless you work in some very niche space you should be able to find an opportunity in a matter of weeks.

Depending on what you do, I have contacts at some of the larger national consulting firms and several placement agency and might be able to help you network...

send me a PM if you would like to keep any details private.

Don't be too hasty about selling your Vette. There are jobs to be had. You might want to check out Huntsville ... I'm retired, but the job market here is excellent, and particularly in the high-tech field. Just do a Google for Aerospace & Defense contractors - Huntsville and you can get a listing of all the companies. And of course, there's Atlanta.

The climate here is similar to Greensboro, and I think the cities are about the same size, so you just might feel right at home.

Good luck!! And start looking NOW. I know it's a blow, but there's no time like the present.

What if your background in IT? My company is hiring. Headquarters is in Sunnyvale, CA but we are a global company so we have people working remotely. I work remotely 100%. I have roughly 19 years of IT experience myself.

You will make more money as a consultant. Get a DBA started, build a website, get some business cards, and start making some phone calls, when things start to take off convert to an LLC. Running your own business is a great way to stay in charge of your life AND make more money. Best of luck to you!!!

My son is a mid level manager at a major consultation firm and he is always looking for people that can write code. The work involves travel and working from home.

Hopefully something will break quickly for you Randy and you'll be able to hang on to the beautiful car that you have put so much effort into.

Best of Luck.

That sucks. At least you have a heads up.

Good luck finding another job.

Hold off on selling the car till it is absolutely necessary.

Just be throwing more money away.

IT background should be very helpful in today's world.
