Default Achieved 30.1 MPG

So..finally set my DIC to calc trip AVG MPG on a 55 mile trip from LA to Newport Beach.

I have driven this before in random speed ranges and I would go from aprox. half a tank to Low fuel warning in a round trip!

This time i set the DIC and it slowly went from 20 MPG all the way up to 30.1 MPG.

I noticed that you have to exactly keep needle at 65 MPH for AVG MPG to climb to 30. If you drop to 60 or up to 70; it just sits there at lower MPGs (20-25).

Now driving exactly at 65 in LA Highway traffic is not easy or safe given weavers, on/off exits cars and congestion. So saving some pennies on MPG v. a crash is not worth it unless you are on wide open highway.

Used exactly 4 Gallons. Was half tank, 32 PSI tires; Im 175lbs, no passenger or luggage (if that matters).

I know that you used your DIC for the MPG, but 110 mile round trip with for 4 gallons of gas is 27.5 mpg, using a calculator.

We just took our car to Vegas this past weekend and round trip (freeway and a little city driving mixed in) was 27.1. we went 80 mph to and from Vegas and did a little stop and go driving while there. Better mileage than my wife's Camry.

The disc readings are at least 1.5 mpg friendly as compared to gallons used when filling.

Either way 30 mpg on the disc is remarkable for this performance vehicle.

Although I never liked the gearing in the MN6 so I went to the 4:10's. Lost some mpg's but I have a lot more fun.

The C6 for me is about the experience, it is not a DD.

I got 25.5 on the Disc coming back from Vegas to San Jose, some 540 miles. While in Nevada at 3am I was at 100 mph for a few hours, and at least 75 most the other time.

This was with passenger and luggage in the back. The Tehachapi kills better fuel mileage.

FWIW: When I got my '07 last year, I checked it the old-fashioned way and it was within 1/10 MPG from what the DIC said.

I was impressed with the accuracy. But either we were both right or we were both wrong.

EDIT: That was for an entire tank, so it had to be pretty accurate.

For short distances, I get 37 to 40 on the DIC between 50 and 55 MPH just for fun.

However, I rarely care about MPG and usually travel about 9 over most places and more in the back country. The DIC instant reads 18 MPG at a steady 140 MPH.

A couple times after road trips of 5,500 miles or more, I've added up the gas receipt slips and end up in the 26-28 MPG range. I suspect the flat highway part must be around 31-32 to compensate for the mountains and city driving.

Funny that you mentioned 55 miles, since that's exactly the distance to the stepson's house where we go about 3 times a month. I'll check the gas mileage on Thanksgiving.

Ya yours is really close.

I have test mine a few times when I first purchased the car. Not since and I was in the 1.5 range less than the disc. It was on full tanks too. Well 15 gallons worth anyway.

I think most will use the disc when talking mileage like the finger method when talking ride height.

May not be the most accurate but it is the easiest.

I imagine your are referring to the instant reading and not the trip reading.

Wow, have you checked the disc reading with the actual gallons consumed?

I AM ALSO ASSUMING THIS READING WAS OFF THE DISC.

MAYBE A TAIL WIND AND HIGH TIRE PSI.

I watched the DIC going from Austin to the Chickasaw Nation in OK and was getting 24 MPG using our Congressionally mandated 91 Octane fuel with 10% Ethanol. After filling with the 100% pure 91 octane gas sold at the Chickasaw Travel Center with NO Ethanol, the DIC display settled on 33.4 MPG for the trip back to Austin. Too bad we cannot get real fuel in Texas.

Humm ya all we have here is the ethanol blend at 15%.

Non blended fuel could be the factor here.

When I first got the car I ran a trip of about 200 miles driving for best fuel mileage but going the speed limit. I got something like 28.5 on the disc. Best I ever saw for combined trip mileage. It would settle sometimes around 30 mpg on the instant mpg display on flat ground.

d.
Bummer being stuck with 15% Ethanol. I thought 10% was bad.

Reporting back after the Thanksgiving day short jaunt across town to the stepson's place for football and yummies.
54.7 miles
60.4 ave mph
Speeds ranged from 0 at stoplights to 75 on freeway, with a little over 5 miles on city streets and the rest on freeways.
elevation started at 1200', went up to 1600', and back down to 1300'
Fuel E10 91 octane was too low for the return, so filled up and the return one was the only one recorded.
Full weight plus full tank plus 390# driver and passenger plus 60# rollbar.
'08 A6 2.56 gear with most boltons and 4000 stall converter.
Final DIC reading 29.2 mpg.
