Default exhaust drone

I have an 09' base I bought it used with a Borla cat back exhaust while I love the sound I find it annoying during long highway rides! Is there a mild to wild setup that won't brake the bank?

I detest drone. I'm not sure what's worse, drone or an unscheduled visit to the dentist !!

Having said that, to simply drive home the point.........look to Corsa and you can drop drone (as in noise) from your automotive vocabulary forever.

My favorite exhaust system is the Corsa, arguably the very best exhaust available. It is not a "dual mode" system, like the (optional) NPP factory setup, but is engineered to behave very well during idle and while "cruising along." It will, however, "bark" moderately under acceleration. A louder system is available from Corsa - it's referred to as the "Extreme." Your message, however, leads me to believe that you'd be happier with the Sport !!

Cost ? Not cheap, unfortunately -but- we're talking about am aircraft-grade, solid stainless steel system that is warrantied for life, and has an excellent resale value if treated with care.

Used Corsa systems "pop up" in the "for sale" section of the forum somewhat frequently and sell for anywhere from $800-1200 complete - condition (seller desperation) dependent. A brand new system can be had for $1400-ish if you look around and "stand your ground" with regard to negotiating the price !!

You'll undoubtedly receive another dozen opinions -but- I'll put my money (and have, literally) on Corsa every time !!

Hope this helps a bit !!

Good luck................

Gary

I love my NPP. But if I were going to buy an aftermarket system, the only one I trust is Corsa. I had their Touring on my C5.

I second the NPP option ... love them when they are open and if the mood strikes me I just close them up

I don't know why so many people spend that kind of money on an aftermarket exhaust system when the stock NPP set up is one of the best systems out there. It doesn't get much better than being able to make it loud or quiet with the touch of a button.

I've had a Corsa system on 3 different Corvettes and have yet to have any drone. The current set up is Corsa Sports on my C6.

You are 100% right , when I was considering my options the one thing that was a constant in my research was

1- they are only a little louder than stock - my answer - Why bother ?

2- they are loud as hell and drone - No way am I putting them on.....

3- they are expensive as hell - now this makes my decision even harder as I don't want to spend over $1000.00 and have to worry about #1 or #2

Bought a used set of NPP's for $500.00 and cannot be happier !

If you like the sound of the Borla, get a new version that has the same sound without the drone. Then sell the old ones.

The Borla you can enjoy just off of idle, but still no drone at cruising.

Corsa doesn't have the same sound, and you need to rev it up just to hear them. (With factory manifolds)

The NPP sound pretty good, but not as good as the Borla or Corsa.

This is a personal preference, so it is best to try and hear some for yourself.

Good Luck,

DJ

Another option would be to add sound insulation under the carpet. My friend has a Borla system and that's what worked for him. I like Magnaflows.

Love my NPP, leave it open all the time unless we are on a long trip down the Interstate . Nice and quiet then

If I had NPP I don't think I would have chanced it however my car came with the Borla setup I just wish it had a switch for when I was on the highway or just needed to make a phone call or maybe have a conversation with my wife.

I had Corsa sport in the past on my 87, love them. My 02 had stock and didn't care to change it. Now I put Borla S Type II on my 07 when I was at Carlisle in August of this year. Love the sound no drone. Really Really Nice Rumble.

Like someone else said you will get a ton of opinions.

Which Borla do you have?

To be clear I really love the sound of the Borla most of the time but when I want or need quite it would be nice to have the option!

As for the model I really don't know because I didn't pick it and it only says Borla on the tailpipe it doesn't give a model number. I did take pictures a while back hoping to identify which model it was but I don't remember what I thought it looked like. I will try to find the pictures when I get home from work and post a few, maybe someone here will know more about it.

The only complaint I have ever gotten from anyone about my car (even Corvette lovers) was that it is too loud. I laugh because I like it,most of the time

Sounds like you have the original S type, they did have drone.

Snap a pic of the pipes behind the tips from underneath, we can tell by that.

Not to try and discourage you but the NPP in its open position definitely "Drones" but with a flip of the FOB its gone, nice option.
I leave it open except the wife complains when we get on an open highway, doesn't bother me though
