Default Neutral position indicator ?

I am trying to see if there is a way to connect an LED that will light up when I am in neutral. Anyone heard of this ?

The computer does know what gear you are in at any given time, so I guess it would know when you are not in gear too. Not quite sure how you would hook it up though.

Can't you just wiggle the gear shift like everyone else does as a double check to see if you are in neutral?

This looks like a shift light---how does it tell you what gear you're in?

I never said I didn't know what gear I was in, or where neutral was. Yes I can wiggle the shifter to see if I'm in neutral. This is a mod that I wanted for MY car, if it is something you're not interested in, no need to bash.

I kinda look at the led for neutral as I do rev matching in a C7... if you need that -- don't buy a manual tranny.

I don't think so.
When you're driving along with cruise control and pop it out of gear, the revs will climb for a bit then cruise will disengage when it realizes you're not picking up speed.

The car knows through the CAN bus what gear the trans is in at all times, the cruise disengages as soon as you clutch in. If you have ever done any diagnostic work with a Tech II connected you would see the selected gear appear on the real time display.

I meant moving out of gear without clutching.

To "test" the cruise control logic. I "test" out every manual car with cruise control to see what it does when you move out of gear w/o clutching; just to see how it reacts.
If it were to know what gear you were in at all times, would it not immediately know you're in neutral and disengage cruise?

The ECM would "know" that the trans is still in 6th, but take a moment to realize that the driveshaft RPM/wheel speed was dropping w/o the clutch/brake being depressed and think the car was going uphill, thus it would add throttle to maintain the set speed.

I get what you're saying, but it counters this thought:
