Fuel Pump Replaced Again
Just wanted to let everyone know the fuel pump on my 2011 Grand Sport with 17,000 miles had to be replaced by the dealer. It was covered under warranty (This time).
I sold my 2008 C6 after the dealer had to replace the fuel pump in it. I bought the 2011 Grand Sport (New) thinking the Corvette fuel pump problem was a thing of the past and only occurred on the early C6 models. Now I'm wondering if the fuel pump on the drivers side is going to fail soon. You would think GM would have installed better pumps after all the complaints. This has happen to me on both my Corvettes...........................Merr y Christmas

the LS3 pump is crap...I've since gone with an LS7 pump on my LS3 car and voila. I don't know which pump the GS gets but when under boost I found the LS3 pump even with a BAP wasn't cutting it. Replaced to LS7 pump and voila problems solved.

Melting Slicks
My 2007 has had no problem with the fuel pump or the gas gauge sender unit and it is over nine years old. I put Techron concentrate in every 3,000 miles so that may be why I haven't had a problem. I also fill the tanks before the fuel level gets to 1/4 tank. Supposedly if the tanks go below the 1/4 mark the fuel pump runs hot because it needs the fuel to keep it cool causing pumps to overheat and fail.

Be sure to go to the NHTSA web site and report this. There is a sticky thread about this at the top of the forum. The plastic used in the C6 fuel pump becomes brittle and cracks around the joint where the output is connected. This causes high pressure gas to be sprayed out the crack when the pump is running, resulting in a fuel smell when the car is parked. There is no relationship between how much you fill up the tank and the cracking problem It will occur even if you never fill the tank all the way up. It is suspected that gas with ethanol in it is what is causing the plastic to become brittle and crack.
The drivers side tank has the fuel pump in it, the passenger side only has a sending unit, but the sending units have also leaked on some cars, and I suspect they are made of the same type of plastic.
If you own a C6 of any model year, you will most likely eventually have this problem at some point. If you have an automatic car, the entire rear end, transmission, and rear suspension have to be removed to get the drivers side tank out. Plan on spending at least $2,500 to have this done on a car with an automatic trans.

I have a 2006 with over 75K, and no issues with the fuel system at all.
Good Luck with the GS
