Scored a set of 09 OEM Z06 Chrome Spiders!
I picked up a set of 2009 Z06 OEM Wheels. The wheels were filthy but no road rash. After a few days of some serious detailing I believe I found 4 diamonds in the rough. The tires were not in the best shape so I decided to scrap them and order some new Michelin's. I went with 345's on the rear versus the stock 325's.

Thank you! The inside of the wheels were painted but was so dirty with grim so I removed all the paint and waxed the inside of the wheel. All I used was a couple wire wheels attached to my cordless drill.

Didn't the wire brush scratch the barrels, or were you going for a matte look? They look really shiny ... hard to tell if they have a scored finish. Look great, BTW. Wanna do mine?

Thank you!
Thank you! I only put enough pressure using my drill to remove all the build up on the hub portion. As far as the inside of the wheel, I used very fine steel wool and carb cleaner and always went with the grain. It didn't scratch it all and it did make it shine. Once I get the tires installed on Monday, I will add a coat of wax to the inside on each wheel. That has always helped to cut down on the break dust build up.

Nice job bud, they look killer.
Mine looked like that when I got the car so I scrubbed and scrubbed, came pretty close to yours but I painted them with Rustoleum Metallic Brilliant metal finish, matched the OEM look to a T.
If I get really ambitious I might do your thing, naw, forget that
Let me know how easily they clean up from brake dust please

Maybe I'm just OCD but I can't understand how someone put in the time and effort to detail their car and don't bother to clean the inside of the wheel. But you did an excellent job they gonna look nice with the new tires.

AtomicAndy,
GREAT POST, GREAT JOB ON THE WHEELS... I have been looking for a winter project!
1. Was the paint difficult to remove?
2. How did you remove the paint, Wire Wheel/ Drill?
I can not believe that the maker of the stock wheels would paint the inside of the wheels, bare aluminum looks so much better!!! I have 6000 miles on the car and the inside of the wheels look like crap.

Yes they are, I had to get a wheel brush for mine, and I'll pull my wheels at least once a month and give them a good cleaning but mine still don't look as good as the OP

My bad. I was surfacing Craigslist and found 2 sets of Z06 wheels. The first set was here in town and had to pass on them. They were sitting out in the elements for awhile and the guy wouldn't negotiate at all on the price. The set I end up buying I had to drive 135 miles to get...but, he came down enough to make the trip.
