Whats with the "Streaming" posts
Does anyone open the rather obscure threads on soccer games and such being "streamed" ?? Are they ever opened cause I usually see no one replied, are they some sort of spam or something?? Virus laden ??

I don't dare. I do report them as Spam, and they get deleted pretty quickly.

Out of curiosity I clicked on one a few months ago from my Mac and it actually did go to a site where you could watch what it says in the link but you have to register as a member which I would not do.

No way to do that. They come in from too many different IP addresses. They do have it set up that new members cannot post links to other websites when they first open a new thread. However, many spammers have learned to edit their new thread, which allows them to add links.
If you'll report them by using the little red triangle under the spammer's User ID, moderators will usually delete them sooner.

I still want to know why they do it. There must be some financial gain for them somehow, but I don't know how.

They must be paid for the number of views. 2 more this afternoon and no end in sight. They get no replies so it is easy to look down the page and find them.

The SPAM posts are usually deleted a little sooner if you report them. If you're not going to report them, don't complain about them.

There are several useful tools for weeding out most of the spammers including human-verification techniques and even vBulletin tools to limit new members from posting links but Internet Brands, which owns this forum and many, many others isn't too concerned.
New spammers who post spam represents new members making posts which boosts member and post counts that is ultimately presented to advertisers. The only thing more lucrative is including a "political" section which always boosts a forum's member and post count by unwitting blowhards.
If you've ever wondered why a car/cooking/shopping/gardening/etc. forum has a political section, that is why. In fact, "supporting memberships" is just inconsequential icing on the massive advertising cake.

I have a mail server that receives large volumes of spam, all machine-generated, much of which is so botched that it's unclear what the scam was supposed to have been. The guys who develop this stuff typically aren't doing quality work.

I've found that spam here is deleted by the moderators much sooner than on any other forum that I go to. The members report it faster and the mods delete it faster...all good.
