Hood Struts

GM supposedly came out with "new and improved" struts a few years ago. Or you can get good quality ones at Autozone, Advance Auto, Amazon, etc.
There are some suggestions and info in here:

When you go to remove the old struts, you will use a flat head screwdriver to pry out the retaining clips. You should place a towel underneath so when the screwdriver slips ... and it will ... you won't scratch the pretty car. It's also helps to have someone hold the hood up while you work. Good Luck!

I have an '06 as well, about 2 years ago, the struts to my rear hatch stated to go bad, replace them and the hood struts at the same time with the GM struts ... figure they lasted that long, why take a chance with an aftermarket brand. As LedZepper said, use a towel and it helps to have a second person, I had my wife hold the hood & hatch while I replaced them.

I just bought replacements for my 05. I used Amazon and bought Strong Arm 6330's.

Had to replace a hood strut on the 06Z at five years. But the 07 vert is now 9 years old and both hood struts are still holding but do seem weaker than new. I can also tell that the rear trunk struts are starting to get weak too.

Changed them ALL.
On my 2006 convertible, the tonneau cover struts were the first to go, and the MOST DIFFICULT to change. Eventually the trunk and hood struts got weaker and weaker. I used all GM products from Gene Culley.

If you own it long enough, they will eventually let go when the weather goes cool and leave a dent in your head. Ask me how I know.
It did take 8 years, however. I just bought a set at the local auto parts store. I figure they will outlast the car.

I recently purchased the 6330's on Amazon and they work great! Snap in place in seconds and you're good to go.
