Battery Tender
I have a new to me 2007 vert. I will be going away for 2 weeks. I can leave the car alone and hope the battery is not dead or I can use my battery tender from my old Vette . The easiest way is to plug it in the cigarette lighter. The other way is to leave the hood open and use the other cable with the battery clamps. I know this has a lot more electronics than my 95 and I did not want to damage anything by using these 2 different methods. What method would you guys use?
Thank you
Thank you

I have heard that the Cig adaptor works fine. My battery is in a well in the back, so I have a pigtail attached to the fusebox in the engine compartment. I open the hood, place a microfiber towel on the fender an attach to the pigtail. then slowly close the hood so it rests on the latches.

You will surely be kicking yourself if you don't use it and the battery goes dead.

lighter method is what i've been using for 3 years. Before that it was battery tender junior hooked up to the battery. You can use whichever you want, they both do the job.No need for both.

Thank you all for your comments. If I use the cigarette lighter adapter method do I plug it in to the auxiliary cigarette socket located in the console or the one located by the ashtray or does it make a difference
Thank you
Thank you

hook up the tender.. I do as Don does and leave my hood resting on a towel. I always hook mine up as it extends the battery life, even if it is just to be parked for a couple of days

Thank you all. I will probably use the cigarette lighter method. I would prefer under the hood but windshield molding does not have any access like my 95 where I kept the connector plug near the base of the wipers. I just do not like opening up the hood every day. I also do not like plugging in to the lighter socket but to me that will have only wear on the cigarette lighter socket. Either I'll leave the window open and have the wires coming out on top of the window or I may try to close the car door on the wire . Hopefully closing the door won't damage the wire.

If you plug into the ashtray connection, you can run the wire out the bottom of the door with no problem to the wire. Just position it in the groove in the doorsill and close the door on it. I've been doing this for 3 years with no problem.

I've used the aux power in the console for 8 years and got 7 years out of my factory battery. The wire goes out the slot in the door. I changed the battery not because there was any hint that it was failing but just because I have no intention of selling the car just yet but the new battery will last another 7 years and, before then, I do expect to buy another. Charging and discharging a lead acid battery is what kills them. Yes, you MIGHT be OK for 2 weeks if you have a good battery but you will not have a good battery when the 2 weeks is over. If you repeatedly let the battery sit for even a few days at a time without a tender you will not get 7 years life out of it. If you always keep it on a tender when not out driving you can get 10 years or more. I've seen lead acid batteries on a tender 24/7 last more than 20 years just as good as new. I've seen a LOT of people here say that a C6 battery won't last more than 2 years. Those seem to be the same people who say the car will do fine for several weeks without a tender.
