Default Rear bearing

I own a 2005 C6, that needs a RR bearing. It's not raced. Just street driven.
Do I replace the hub assembly (includes bearing), or just replace the bearing?
All day job? or how long to remove & replace?
Any specific brand to use?
Thank you in advance

Replace the hub assembly. You tube has a couple DIY videos, not do hard, but might need to purchase the axle nut socket, as it's not a common size in most sets. Timken, Moog are good brands names. Also the axle nut needs to be replaced as it's design for one use, I believe.

The bearing and hub come as an assembly. Here is a good deal on an amazon open box one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...622608&sr=1-39

From the shop manual:

Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
Removal Procedure

1]Raise and support the vehicle.
2]Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3]Disconnect the wheel speed sensor harness connector.
4]Disconnect the ESC rear position sensor link.
5]Remove the brake caliper and rotor.
6]Disconnect the shock absorber ESC harness connector.
7]Separate the outer tie rod end from the suspension knuckle.
8]Remove the spindle nut retainer, the spindle nut and the washer.
9]Separate the upper control arm (1) from the suspension knuckle.
10]Separate the suspension knuckle from the lower control arm ball joint stud.
11]Remove the suspension knuckle from the vehicle.
12]Remove the wheel hub mounting bolts.
13]Remove the hub and bearing assembly from the suspension knuckle.

Have done both of my rears, the second one about a year after the first one.

The first one took me about four hours, but that included some hard to loosen fasteners and suspension joints. I would recommend applying some good penetrant the day before disassembly.

The second time around only took about 2 hours.

Overall, not a bad job with the right tools.

Thank you MikeERWNC for your excellent video. I watched it a couple of years ago when I suspected a bad rear bearing. I didn't do the work myself, but was glad to know what was involved.

You can rent the 34mm socket and 200#' torque wrench from O'reilly's, but get a new nut from a GM dealer. I double nutted mine with the old nut and additionally marked the location with a felt pen for quick looks anytime the wheel is off.

You better get a 33mm... It fits properly.
