Yeah, I agree, it does suck. It sucks because no matter how many times the topic of chrome vs. black wheels comes up, the results are always the same. 5 to 1 in favor of chrome. If there is a correlation to anything it is a membership demographic.

The demographic of this membership hasn't changed in the almost 3 years I've been here (and I expect a long long time before that), so there is no expectation the ratio will change. Just more and more creative ways of saying one hates chrome, or one hates black.

It's the "doing the same thing over and over expecting different results" thing....ain't never gonna happen.........

Yeah , I remember those days. One of my favorite first jobs. No one pumped their own gas. I washed the windshield after putting the hose in the tank inlet, If there was a young girl , it was a bonus cause all the girls wore dresses. When no customers , you could polish everything on your car. I had a 57 two door Bel Air ... Didn't make much for my time, but I loved working the station. Simpler days

Why don't you just start a new thread????
LOL.....I understand your thought, but I think you missed the point. I will occasionally look at a newly restored old thread sometimes just to see if there is new info on a subject that may be helpful. But of course that all depends on what the thread is about. But if I find that an old thread would just frustrate me to visit it, then I just ignore it.......

My Centennial was 1 of 23 that came with chrome wheels. I got a set of original satin black with red stripe wheels. They are going on in the spring. I will get before and after pics.

Just my two cents worth here.
I think there are reasons behind the preferences for black or chrome.

Black wheels underline the serious capabilities of the car. I first remember seeing them on 4wd vehicles. To me they work best on light color cars - silver and white for instance.
They pretty much disappear on really dark cars. It is also difficult to appreciate the fine design of the wheel when it blends into the tire and wheel well. Hard to see unless in direct sunlight as many of the photos on this thread demonstrate.
The other problem is no contrast with the tire. The dark gray versions help and are gaining popularity probably for this reason.

Silver wheels [chrome, polished aluminum, hyper sliver, etc.] to me look best on dark cars because of the contrast. I don't think they work as well on white or silver cars - not enough contrast.
I personally don't like chrome wheels on modern cars - too much bling. For silver wheels I always think of the painted ones on a Ferrari.
My Jetstream Blue C6 base came with Cray Manta wheels - hypersiver centers and polished rims. I'm going to plastiidip the centers matte black and leave the polished rims. My attempt to get the best of both.

The C6 has both 60's muscle car and modern supercar in it's DNA so I can understand both preferences.

Wow, you put entirely too much thought into that.

It's like any other preference, it instinctual, visceral.

I'm pretty sure you can't over simplify an opinion.

You can over complicate it, especially when "justifying it",

This crazy subject is almost like someone is kicking their cat around so it gets personal. I don’t have a cat but I do have Black wheels...and even like them.

FTR: I've got two cats; neither is black. In "an earlier life" I did have a black cat -- jet black with bright yellow eyes. My neighbor lady called her "****-Eyes," lol.

But I do not have any black wheels, nor did I ever. And no plans to get any.
