I was under the impression that banjo fittings were the standard way that calipers are attached to the system on most cars. They're not at all exclusive to Vettes or even high performance cars.

It's common knowledge that brake fluid is very corrosive. Insurance will fix your riceburner.

You got the price about right. Double the cost of good 4-post lifts, or maybe more. But, in a 22x22 garage, where we still want to get around easily in day to day use, 4-posters would be constantly in the way.

Based on my research prior to purchase, and my experience with them now, I would only recommend the units I got from American Custom Lifts (aclifts.com). You can see the testimonial I recorded for them here:

I would be curious as to how often you drive it and what your SOP has been with this vette.

Default Vertical Storage

Since the initial issue here was vertical storage (a subject of which I know nothing about, I don't have a lift or the vertical clearance in my garage to accommodate one), this question is not about the leak. I was looking at the picture showing the support points and was wondering if anyone has ever had a bad experience in seismic zones with cars falling off the lift during an earthquake? Just a question.: eek:

I just saw this thread for the first time.

I'm curious why the OP didn't make a claim on his wife's comprehensive policy or if he did, if it was honored.

I agree with him that this shouldn't have happened but I feel the same about all the gas fume posts or the harmonicas getting unbalanced that I read about also here.

If you own a 'Vette, you either need to learn to work on them or be prepared to PAY to have someone else do it.

If you own something else, is there then a third or fourth choice?

It depends on what you have as to whether you are more likely to have problems. Corvettes are not the best built products on the market.

You are paying for style and attention

Because, on later inspection, he believes there is no definite damage to the clear coat....think that was middle of page 2 or so.

Last year had to use insurance for huge money. I had the fear that we would get cancelled or billed back.

My kid (18 YO) was in an accident not his fault. His 65 corvair was totaled. The other driver who turned left in front of him had minimum Az insurance. 15K liability.

He had injuries. My insurance using my underinsured driver coverage paid out over 180K.

Just renewed with Amica, rate stayed exactly the same. ....so far.

First and foremost, you have my sympathy for this awful occurrence. I would, however, file a claim, if the damage is as significant as it appears to be.

It's one thing not to file a claim if you're faced with...say....a $1000 "out-of-pocket mess" for reasons such as this - however, $4, $5, maybe $6K to "put this behind you".......it's time to USE what you've been paying for, and will continue to pay for, virtually forever !!

Good luck, regardless of your decision !!

Gary

I have three cars and a two car garage. I have stored my corvettes (C4, C5, C6 and C7) on the upper rack in the winter and rotate with my cadillac in the summer. Have a BYB lift with drip pans that cover the entire open space front to rear. If there are any leaks they are caught by the drip pans. Inexpensive, smart investment.

When I saw the term "vertical" I expected to see something different. These are stacked horizontally.
