Default My First Speeding Ticket

Got my first ticket for speeding. The officer got me fair and square. No complaints. We talked for quite awhile about how much he liked vettes. Stupid really, I only had my speed up for a minute or two with no traffic in sight.
Ya takes your chances and ya pays your dues

What's that in mph? Like 20 or so mph over the limit?

I got a warning the other day for 45 mph in a 20. The cop said he had a Vette so I lucked out.

As you should I'm surprised! You Nova Scotians usually drive the speed limit in your own province, but once you cross into NB, you drive like maniacs and we can't keep up.

You got lucky indeed with only 2 demerit points

Isn't there an alternative to simply paying the fine and getting points on your record like traffic school, same fine plus traffic school costs and of course, 'court costs' but nothing on your record. Great for first offenders here.

80 in a 60 and you are hanging your head in shame. I'd be embarrassed, too.
I call that a wuss ticket.

You become a "first offender" again after 90 days here, and can repeat the class as many times as you like as long as you have 90 days between each citation.

My buddy, not going to mention his name got popped on a federal parkway.
The Trooper blew it way out of proportion and a certain Corvette owner could have gone to jail.
He had to jump through way too many hoops to keep his driving privilege.
There really should be a certain age when a cop should just shake his head and allow the senior citizen to go free. This happened early morning on a desolate road in the middle of NO WHERE!
If you're over 70 yo, and you are playing safely all by yourself 40+ miles from the nearest city, there is no reason the cop should strictly enforce the law.
By that age you already know better, and how much longer do you really get to enjoy living?
It is only about the revenue in Graham County NC.

Race on my friend... I will chuckle if he sees this.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing in Canada. The only option is to go to court and plead not guilty, hope that the police officer that gave you the ticket doesn't show up, and it's tossed, or have them prove that you did commit an offense, by going over the ticket, having them show that the radar gun had proper calibrations completed etc.
Even if found guilty, you can plead to have the fine and demerit points reduced.
If you get caught 25mph over the speed limit, and there goes 1/2 (5 points) off your drivers license, and the fine can be quite high.
Radar detectors are banned, and if you get caught with one, you might as well bend over.
Each province has different rules on speeding for fines and points lost.
I'm sure the US states each have their own rules on speeding as well.

Couldn't you get a lawyer and have the ticket reduced to a none moving violation?
The cost would probably double but at least it doesn't go on your record.

Default Sometimes one gets lucky...

A few weekends ago, I got nailed dead-to-rights by a Sheriff in SW WA (Hood Canal area) -- the LEO said his radar indicated 71 in a 55 Max stretch of back road. This was after I had passed a Kia sedan @ about 85 mph! The moment I passed, the Kia -- who had been monkeying around at about 53-54 in the 55 zone -- it sped up (of course) as I passed, so 85 at time of pass and then lifted to coast down to something more reasonable... but... the radar detector went off and there he was... about 1/2 mile up the road on opposite side of the 2-lane state route.

It took a few minutes for him to turn around and catch up, but catch up he did and after explaining that I had been over the posted max due to the Kia speeding up while I was passing... he went back to his rig... and came back a few minutes later to advise me that, "...it's always safer to get back to the speed limit after a pass..." "....you have a nice day...".

I'm not saying that he let me off b/c I was in a Vette, but I do wonder if he would have let me off if I had been in any other rig.

Regardless, I was thankful for a his leniency!

Driving from NY to Florida 2 years ago, I had a bad leg cramp and I was on I- 95 in Georgia . I was speeding to get home to Florida in my Lexus, 92 to be exact when I drove thru a speed trap and got nailed. I got the ticket but I remembered in my town there was a place called ticket clinic. I stopped by and paid around $210 plus the fine and squashed the ticket. I didn't want my insurance raised. First ticket in 50 years

OP- You are a better man than me. No way I would feel good about talking to a Cop, about my Vette, who just gave me a ticket. He could have given you a break very easily. But, no the p@#$k gave you a ticket. Also, it was your first ticket. Screw that Cop. I'll bet if you knew someone. Or, had some kind of PBA card you would have "walked".

My last ticket was in 1979. There, I just jinxed myself.
