Default Rear axle seal seepage

I had my car at the dealer for repair on another issue, but the tech noted that there was seepage from the right rear axle seal and suggested the seal be replaced.

I don't see any differential fluid spots on the driveway or any fluid on the wheel.

How common is rear axle seal seepage? Is it worth repairing if there is no evidence of a leak after the car has been parked?

Thanks.

Pretty common. Had both of mine changed under warranty (powertrain). No fluid on garage floor but all over diff and half shafts.

My car was 3 months old with 5500 miles when I had one replaced so you never know. It dripped fluid on the ground.

The difference between seepage and dripage is about $500.

I guess you could wait for drips to appear, or wait to hear some kind of grinding noise (). I just experienced that on an suv (sounded like grinding of metal on metal---gee, who woulda thought?). By the time I got to a dealer 200 miles later, they said on opening the diff where they determined the sound to be coming from, small and larger pieces of metal were falling out. And that was with no leakage or seepage, or even a damp spot. I am sure yours won't lock up the axle; I was told something different for mine tho. Not trying to alarm you.
