My V1 has saved me thousands over the years in my cars and on my motorcycles...thousands! They should be at least optional equipment if not standard.

Received my first ticket in 10 years two months ago. Written for 81 in a 55 in the corvette, fine with court costs was to be a little over $500.
I'm in Texas with a commercial license, lucky me there are ZERO options. No defensive driving, no deferred. Hiring an attorney is about the only recourse, with no guarantees having the commercial.
I chose to go before the DA (he's the voice for the judge in that county).
He took pity on me (he owned a '63 corvette) and the fact I have a commercial license. His exact words were "oh, you don't need this on your license"
He reduced it to 60 in a 55 (non moving violation). Fine with court costs.... $175
I was fortunate.

So what, really, is the latest?
I've never owned one and no plans to buy one, at this point anyway.

I have cruise control and I know how to use it. Last ticket I got was in '07, outside of Ft. Worth. 77 in a 65 on the interstate. Too much traffic and I didn't see the speed limit change. With a Commercial DL, I don't need the expense or the points.
I also have a Valentine V1. I trust it pretty much but it's only good if someone in front of you gets tagged by radar and it goes off.

A RD is just one tool in the toolbox. Situational awareness is always top priority.

I had a Vette during the early '90s, no tickies, and have put 6,000 miles on my current C6, no tickies. I speed often enough but live in the boonies so we're not crawling with cops.
Besides, "speeding" around here is pretty much restricted to short bursts as there are a lot of hills and curves.

Ca was a "humorless" place in the 70's as well.. We tried for a few to truck out of there and conceded to the authorities that their state was a place where we couldn't do business.. Made every effort to abide by their rules and still they found ways to rob us of fines that were 2 to 3 times higher than most other states... We made a vow not to return and have been money ahead since.. I know this will pizz off some some nice folks from the golden state and that is not my intent.. Beautiful state you have but the Ca government makes it where it is hard to enjoy.

That is true if the cop is well hidden using instant on radar on a road with little or no traffic. The reality is that most cops don't set up on roads with little traffic but instead on well traveled roads. Even with instant on available I find that more often they get behind a bridge and turn the radar on and leave it on. Using instant on the way it was designed requires concentration and effort. Sitting with the radar on will catch someone speeding without a detector with no effort in short time. Using a RD is not foolproof. You have to be aware of where you are. If I am coming down the interstate with a mile of open road and no cars in front of me and an overpass coming up I will back off. Also, using Waze adds another level of protection especially in well populated areas.

How about 80 days in jail reduced to 10 days plus $2,500 fine plus court fees for going over 80 in a 70mph zone? 1st offense. That was after hiring a lawyer (paid him too), going in uniform with my superiors (was active duty at the time). VA don't play, Hanover County really don't play....
I would gladly pay any fine if it keeps me out and free...

That said, I got pulled over in VA by a state trooper in an unmarked, non standard car (it was like a Chevy Cobalt or something) and he was very cool. I was just over the border from NC (where I live) when he pulled me over. He gave me a warning on my speed (under 10 mph over) and told me to lock my V1 in the trunk while I was in VA.

Driving a vette gets you profiled right off the bat anyway. I have been stopped at least a dozen times (never for speeding). No ticket yet because it's for stupid things like my tag light is too bright, tone down the cove lights (they are taped over now), not using signal when changing lanes, and seriously I've been pulled over to ask the year of my car a couple times and one cop spent 10 minutes telling me all about his hot rod mustang...sheesh...

Waze is a REALLY good application. That paired with a good radar detector (V1 or high end Escorts or the Whistler C90) are about as good as it gets. I find that being polite and apologetic seems to work the few times I've been pulled over. I rarely see POP being used, Laser is much more common down here in Texas. I've debated going with a Laser Blinder or something to combat that but I haven't pulled the trigger.

Never got a ticket driving a car though, but they sure hate crotch rockets over here.
