Headlight clear coat fading?
I have a 2011 GS with 27000 miles. It's garage kept. Has anyone had the clear coat on the headlights fade and peel? Any idea what the best way to fix them? I'm not ready to pay $3000 for a new set. Thanks

You could just replace the lenses for less than 1/3 that cost ...
Do a search on RLSebring, 500 for lenses and you can do it yourself or pay a bit more ship him your lights and have him do it

I paid $430.00 from RLSebring for new lenses. Mine were crazed so there was no saving them. Pain to replace but worth it in the end. I would also explore the idea of sanding and buffing out you're existing lenses, then have a new sealant sprayed over them which is even cheaper to repair if you are inclined to do the work yourself.

I think i've finally decided to do this as a band-aid to eventually replacing the lenses and want to make sure I get the right color, and I'm using your car as my reference, so thanks!

I'm relatively new at this C6 stuff, but are you guys talking about the headlight lenses yellowing? I had that happen to my '00 Camaro and I tried all sorts of cleaners and sanding solutions to no avail. I finally bought some Wipe New headlight restorer and, voila, the headlights looked brand new when I sold the car. Wipe New guarantees that you'll never have to re-do the headlights as well.
BTW, NSF great looking GS.

Wait, are those Gun Smoke or Tint? Lamin-x's website says it goes: Clear -> Tint -> Gun Smoke in order of light to dark.

I thought I saw that they added a darker one but I may be mistaken on that.
Headlight out put is diminished though, I would estimate 10%+
I don't drive at nite or very rarely so take that into consideration
Good Luck
NSF PS I see that I am wrong (odd) and gun smoke Is the darkest,

Looks good on your GS. Considering doing the Lamin-X gunsmoke on my 13 GS.
Hard to tell in the photo , Does the Lamin-X wrap completely around the edges of the lenses so that no clear shows? Did you install yourself?

Yes I installed them, sprayed a little soapy water first so you can position them then squeegee with soft sided felt squeegee, but gently as I scratched mine by pressing a little too firmly
I think you can see it in this photo.
Good luck Oh and you can order the set, fogs & headlights together, I have the matching gun smoke but haven't switched them out yet

I cheaped out as well (for now). But they look like **** from 10 ft and closer, and the light output on the headlights is terrible. Luckily I have LED fogs, otherwise it would be impossible to drive at night.

The problem is that they have a really hard coating on the lens, after a while the coating starts to delaminate. There is not much that can be done with them unless the coating is completely sanded off, then the lens can be polished and clear coated, BPITA though.

After about six to eight heat cycles in the oven and prying the heck out of them to get the old lens off, I'd rather sand, buff and clear coat them. Espicially if you have a power buffer. I wish I had the choice to do that as mine were crazed with a zillion cracks showing and tinted headlights are not allowed for state inspection around here.

There was a forum member that did successfully sand and buff/clear coated his lens covers, so it can be done.

Most of these can be a risk, but you have to go with the method and price you can handle. I can see mine spotting already and will probably go with the lens replacement.
