Default ARCO is top tier!

I've been agonizing over being too cheap to buy top tier gasoline for either my Corvette or my Mustang because the big brand stations are usually $.20 to $.60 per gallon higher around here for premium. The cheapest gas in town is ARCO, so that's where I've been getting my fuel. I just found out that ARCO is top tier gasoline. It's like a great weight has been lifted off of me! I can be a cheapskate and still be one of the top tier crowd. What a deal! I wonder how the packet of additives that the driver dumps into the tanker truck when he's delivering ARCO differs from the packet he dumps in when he's transporting Shell? Maybe it's like when my mom worked for a winery and they would receive massive tanker truck deliveries of Thompson seedless grape juice from neighboring areas and they would ship massive quantities of expensive varietal wines. I always wondered what they were doing with all that grape juice. Just sayin'.

I didn't know you could make wine from Thompson seedless. I thought they were for eating, and for raisins.
Most wine grapes have less water content.

They used it as a "filler". Since varietals have to be a certain % of the varietal grape juice, the rest can be pretty much what's on hand. The winery was near the Great Central Valley where cheap grapes are plentiful. Enjoy your chardonnay.

I can remember during a fuel crisis when Arco was one of the first to discontinue taking credit cards---cash only. Do they still do that? Or, do they allow their own credit card?

To me, it reminds me of that other co. that had its cheap-a$$ tanker spill its guts all over a part of Alaska. That's the one I've not been back to.

Arco takes debit cards, with a 35cent or 45cent fee. If you are filling up, the fee adds about 2cents to the cost of a gallon.

The tanker was the "Exxon Valdez ", and it really wasn't a "cheap ***" tanker. It was standard construction for the day. The captain had been drinking, if I recall. Again, IIRC, I think he just let it sit, without telling officials, which is why it was such a mess. To make matters worse, Exxon did not step up with a massive clean-up until it became a PR problem for them.

I may be wrong about the above, as I am going from memory, which is seldom reliable anymore.

All tankers are now double-hulled, as I understand.

I don't do debit cards for many reasons. To permit only debit cards is not to my liking so I still won't use Arco. As to the Valdez, irresponsible on several counts incl. the state of the art at the time for tankers. I'm sure Mobil/Exxon isn't missing my fill-ups. I still recall when Mobil was an indie company before '99.

That's pretty much how I remember it also.

Too lazy to Google.

I need to make a correction on my earlier post. SOME Arco stations do take credit cards. I do not know if it depends on the ownership, or what, but just realized that I sometimes use my card at an Arco station here in town.

At the price they sell gas for, it is worth it to find out if one near you does.
