Default LS3 oil pressure.........

So, I noticed my oil pressure at about 20-23 when motor is fully warmed up on my 2011 LS3 (oil and coolant temps at about 215 and idling around 600 rpms)

Does this seem low?

In spec but low, how does idle compare to running on the highway?

Any mods?

What oil and oil filter?

Not too low but a little hot. I have had motors that idled at 15 psi and never a problem.

Once it's moving on the highway it will drop into the 190's but stopped and idling it likes to go to that 215ish temps.

Oil pressure should be 140 to
550 kPa (20 to 80 psi). In certain
situations such as long, extended
idles on hot days, it could read as
low as 40 kPa (6 psi) and still be
considered normal.
According to the owners manual, it could idle at 6 PSI and still be considered "normal"

I can see it would be a waste of time to take it to the dealer and ask them about it.

Is this something that just recently happened, and it used to be higher?

I thought it use to idle around 24 or 25. Maybe I just hadn't noticed it go this low before, I don't know for sure.

The only thing I can think that's different is GM no longer makes the PF48 and the last couple of oil changes I used the new PF48E

I don't want to start an oil thread but I use M1 0w-40 or 5w-40 here in Florida. We won't mention the thermostat but the oil pressure goes down as the temperature goes up.

On my 12k mile LS3 C6, I have seen 26-27psi with 5/30 Mobil 1 when the oil / coolant temps are ~220^F.

I don't think its a big deal.

Maybe a little. On my 08, running at highway speeds, fully warmed up etc, my coolant temp runs between 199 - 205. Oil temp is usually in the mid 220's.

Seems low to me. Better not drive it anymore.

I look at oil temp on the DIC and oil preszure on the guage and have not noticed it go below 30.

I would verify that the gauge is actually reading correctly first, but I have no clue how to do that on a modern engine.

I'm sure one of the Vette gurus will show up soon.

I don't think that the difference between 20 - 23 and 24 or 25 is significant. I don't think that the sensor is accurate enough or precise enough for these numbers to be meaningfully different.

I wouldn't worry about it. My LS3 has similar PSI when sitting in traffic in the 105 degree heat we are having. I will worry if it doesn't go up when I stab the gas though.

I wouldn't worry about it. Like others have said as long as it goes up when you start moving I don't think you gave a problem.

Mine shoots right up as the RPM's increase so I guess no worries.

Hopefully not, was out tonight and with the cooler temps in never dropped below 24 or 25 at idle.
