Default Senility update

I have a 2008 manual top convertible and I made a big mistake. I was in a car show, March of this year, and I was at the other of the show when it started to rain. I went back and closed the car, put the top up but did not latch it. Down the road the top flew back and bent the top rods and it was hard to close Close to $800.00 for the repair. LESSON LEARNED.

Sorry to hear that. I forgot to latch my roof on my coupe many years ago and l'm lucky it didn't hit anybody when it went flying.

You aren't the first to admit to that. As you say, live and learn and as already said, no one was hurt.

Been reported by several coupe owners here the last 8-10 years.

Almost did the same thing but was able to grab the handle when it was still only a couple inches up.

You are now a member in good standing of the flying roof club !
Glad nobody got hurt, but it is an expensive way to learn to latch the roof down.

Yikes!

Glad that is was so minor. No one hurt and not too bad a damage amount.

About 13 years ago, I had a 97 Z28, glass T-Tops. Went out cruising one afternoon with tops off. Put tops back on before going out to a dance club that evening. I guess I didn't latch the tops. Nothing happened, until on the way home at 2 AM on the highway, one of the tops literally sucked off and went hurling over the median onto the other side of the highway. Have no idea if it ever hit another car. Went back down the other side of the high way to see if maybe I got lucky and could find it in one piece, but I found nothing but shatter glass and scraps. Turned around and went home. Cost me $350 at a salvage yard to replace.

If GM would have designed the car to alert the driver that the latches weren't secure, that would have prevented my mistake. I could have caused a major car accident to others jeopardizing other people's lives because of my absent minded mistake 13 years ago. Got lucky. To this day, because of that incident, I still double check and ensure my corvette targa top is latched whenever it's been off and put back on.

The Vert lets you know if the top is not secure.
