Default targa vs convertable

Greetings Friends,

I have an 08 coupe. I haven't driven a convertible vette in 10 years or so. While we were riding around tonight, (one of those fresh, after-rain nights) I was wondering how the turbulence and noise compare between having the targa top off and top vert top down on the respective cars. Is it a big difference, or barely noticeable? Maybe I'll trade for a vert someday?

Thanks,

Monte

Why don't you drive one of each and then decide?

Not meant to be "salty". It's just that I think what may be too windy or too buffeting for one person may not be for another.

I have a coupe, and around town, driving with the top off is great.
At highway speeds, that's another story. Way too much turbulance due to the wind coming back from the hatch area. For me, it's just too annoying.
I seldom take the top off if I know I'll be going on a highway.

I'm assuming that the wind is more streamlined in a vert, so the wind buffeting affect would be less.

I have had both and both are bad at highway speeds. I guess it comes down to personal preferences. I prefer the coupe in our hot climate in Texas. Feels more roomy inside also. YRMD

I've owned both, and to me the coupe has less turbulence on the highway. I added a Windrestrictor to my vert and it's quite tolerable now. If you roll the windows up (which I hate to do because I think it looks stupid and defeats the purpose of a top-down vert), there is very little turbulence and it's quiet enough inside to carry on a conversation in a regular tone of voice.

Default Windshield mount wind deflector?

Anyone have any experience with those for a targa?

I'm all about convertibles, but a wind deflector is mandatory to manage air flow and extend top down season. You can also experiment with various window positions.

Default Love the look of a vert

Love the roof line of a vert over a coupe , wish they made a hardtop like the c-5 zo6.

I also believe a vert with the top up is quieter inside than a coupe; at least in my experience that's the case. You don't have the big "echo chamber" in the back that the coupes have.

I too have owned both and I agree with this post completely. I currently own a vert and love it. I just like the whole top off feel. That said, I may choose to drive the car less because I worry about security and how easy it would be for a vandal to cut the top. With a coupe you are a bit more secure when locked up.

I take "salty" as meaning somewhat blunt, direct, or sassy. I do think driving one is very wise advise though. I'll have to keep an eye out for a vert in my area that is for sale and test it. I have one of those devices that hold the latch open about 2 inches and that helps prevent turbulence.

Thanks to all

Get a "hatch vent" for the coupe when running on the fwy.

Does that really help? I have heard of them but have never really seen what it is or how it works. I assume that it holds the hatch open slightly to let air escape?

LOL....before we bought our vert, I told my wife that she better be ready to wear a cap or do something to hold her hair together because it will absolutely get blown around when going for a drive. She said "oh, thats no problem"....I guess call me stupid cause she still complains about the hair thing....."Can we keep the windows up...can we stay off the highway"...LOL. I say.."No, we didn't get a convertible to drive around with the windows up !!. Bottom line ??....live with it and learn to enjoy the ride. If your gonna drive around with tops down or off your gonna get blown around a little bit....its all part of the experience of going topless.....

A friend said it helps a lot with the turbulence.

I could not agree more. Everyone has heard me say (on some pretty cool crisp days):
I didn't buy a convertible to drive with the top up.
