From reading about them on these forum its called a Heimholtz box or something close to that and the supposed function is to smooth out air flow, again
I read here that some who cut theirs off suffered from "surging" on their Vettes, but that's not confirmed by me.
Looks better without it but those engineers do some tricky stuff that I have no idea why but it works, again

Anyways just took er out for a little spin. Seems to run just fine. Actually can't tell any difference in the way she performs.
So far (anyways) so good.
