break job question?...
...well I reached a milestone this week. I've finally kept one long enough to need breaks. yeah me right? lol! anyway, the front left was rubbing just a little but you could see it. I have it at the dealer but the guy didn't if they could turn the drilled rotors or not so I'm waiting to hear. can that be done? lord I don't want to have to buy rotors!!

You can turn drilled and slotted rotors... They will warp quicker.
Rotors are cheap. Under 300.00 for all four with ceramic pads.
It is the labor which kills you.
Brakes are one of the easier jobs on the car that you can do yourself.

The thickness are as follows: (from the service manual)
The service manual does not specify rotors from base, Z51, Z06 or ZR1
They can be checked with a micrometer calibrated in thousands of a mm or te-thousands of an inch.
They are mesasured with the micrometer in 1/2 inch from the outer edge.
Front New - 32mm or 1.26 in
Discard Thickness - 30.3 mm or 1.19 in
Refinish minimum allowable thickness - 30.6 mm or 1.205 in
Rear New - 26 mm or 1.02 in
Discard Thickness - 24.5 mm or 0.965 in
Refinish minimum allowable thickness - 24.9 mm or 0.980 in
The lateral run out should not be any more than 0.06 mm or 0.002 in
for both front and rear rotors
I searched google images and also found this.

Your getting off cheap...A set of 14" front rotors for my Wilwood big brake system cost $800.00 a set.. I may just sell the car if it ever needs rotors........WW

well just got the call from the dealer, replacing all 4 rotors and pads. $1734 out the door! stopping is overrated...

How many miles on the brakes? It might be that the rotors needed nothing, but unless you can check for yourself, you just have to accept what the dealer tells you.

Wow. And people wonder why many of us will not take our car to a dealer. I bought four drilled rotors and ceramic pads for $400.000 and installed them in two relaxing hours. $1734.00 for this job is amazing.
