Default Z51 package worth the extra $$?

Hey guys looking to buy my first corvette here soon and I've been noticing the z51 performance package cars usually bring a little more money. My question is is it worth the extra cash? i know the big deference is the transmission. Does the transmissions better gearing really provide that much better performance. I plan to eventually hci the vette. Looking at ls2s by the way

I have an LS3 Z51...YES, but more yes if you're going to do any off-street activities.

It was worth what GM charged for it, and commands much less on a used C6!

I strongly agree that it is worth the small premium you pay to get a Z51 C6...

I have an '07 Z51 optioned car and in my opinion it is worth it, but it really comes down to what you plan to do with the car. If you plan to do any track time (road course) or auto crossing then yes by all means it is worth it. On the other hand if all you plan to do in a daily driver to and from work or a weekend cruiser on normal streets, not the twisty bits, and you don't plan to do any real spirited driving, then no it is probably not worth it. It has a much harsher ride. The first time my wife drove it when she got home her first question was how to I soften up the ride. My C5 had the selective ride control. So she picked up on the ride first time out.

Mine is Z51 BUT I have nothing to compare it to

Honestly really not sure what the Z51 package all is, I know some of the details but have never really thought much about it

Primarily, the Z51 is a track package. I has a number of changed components over the standard setup that work better under aggressive driving conditions. By aggressive, that means more than just spirited driving on the streets.

Yes it is worth it.
But don't expect to track it
Get a ZO6 if you want to track and thats with mods...specifically oil starvation thru big G turns

Biggest thing I like about it are the cross drilled rotors, I know of the other "goodies" but then again mine is not tracked at all

Hardest driving I do is when we do the Dragon or Moonshiner 28 a few times each year

Think of it like this. GM changed some major components of the car to make it more adaptable to track. The four major components that were changed:

Suspension
Brakes
Cooling (Powertrain)
gearing

This is for the LS3 version of the Z51, 08 up to the GS which replaced the Z51. I cannot speak to the LS2 version no exposure there.

I don't track mine, so most of these components don't do anything for me, except gearing.

Alright great! Is there anyway to identity a z51 car by looking at it unfortunately some owners I've talked to arent sure if theirs has the z51 pack or not

Best way is to look for the sticker in the glove box. It will have Z51 as one of the codes installed at the factory. Here is a pic of what to look for:

The most I plan on doing is going to the drag strip was hoping the better gearing would help out there. But even then I'll rarely be going to it but I always wanted it. Gonna have to get one.

I (obviously) think it's worth it-for me the different geared transmission is enough to warrant the extra $. I love the firm suspension as well. Not quite z06 suspension stiffness, but close.

I often see Z51 models on lots, and nobody there knows the car has the option. And, their ignorance is reflected in the price.
