Default Pro's/Con's on 427????

I have always liked the 2013 427's and just keep looking at them

Found one with low miles and a dealer in SC that is CRM which naturally is the color I love the most

Keep wanting to go look at it BUT I have read and heard some issues with the 427 engine itself

How prevalent are these issues

Other thing kind of holding me back is the M6, while I would LOVE to have a manual transmission the wife does drive the C6 every blue moon and she does not drive a manual at all. This is probably the biggest issue I have with one BUT still so rare she drives it may end up being a non issue

You may want to ask in the Z06 discussion forum also...
I haven't kept up on the stories but it's enough for me to avoid mainly because I DD my vette and can not afford any down time if a problem comes up, but would love to have one.... or a zr1...

As long as it doesn't have a picture of a Yeti that a guy in your town powder coated and laser etched the C6 logo you should be good to go!

IDK how prevalent "some issues" are, but I put 70,000 trouble-free miles on my LS7.

More chicken-littling than actual problems, IMO.

Have the valve guides wiggle checked before you commit.

I agree with posting this question on the Z06 forum for more up-to date info. I have not looked in there recently (since I sold the Z06).

If you are looking at a CRM 427 Convertible, here are a few things to also think about.
The majority of LS7 issues related to valve guides and valves were addressed PRIOR to 2013, there were a very few who had issues with the connecting rods on a few LS7's, but I would think that with the time and possible mileage accumulation on a now 4 year old car, if it had the issue, it would have surfaced already.

The 427 Convertible was a limited run, of 2552 total, of which CRM had a total of 162 in that color.

The depreciation on them has about hit bottom, and it seems that if the car checks out, and is why you really want, should not be an issue.

Lastly, if you are truly worried about engine and drivetrain, you could always purchase an extended warranty as well.

Just my opinion................................. .

Techically,it's still 3 years old unless it was first registered in 2012, so if it's at a CHEVY delaer ,ask about certification which will exted you warranty all around, plus it does have the balance of the 5 year 100k warranty on the powertrain.

It became a 4 year old car since the first day the 2017's hit the showroom floor. Birth date or date of first registration for a used car doesn't override MY designations except for warranty concerns. A 2016 Vette sold today, even with zero miles, is already last year's model.

That aside, to put the OP's concerns to rest, if he buys now and then sells it before the warranty expires, the engine issue is moot.

Actually buying it today and selling it before the 2018's hit the floor, means it'd still be a 4 year old car too. Hey, 9 months of fun and only mileage as a depreciation cost, sounds like a good deal.
Rinse, wait 3 months, then repeat as an endless low cost alternative for a perpetual 4 year old toy.

I have both a 2008 Z06 and a 2013 427 Convertible. The 2013 is just as much fun to drive as the 2008. If you get the chance to buy one do it!

Issues are not "chicken little" they are very very very common. 2013s have valve guide and rod issue. I would only buy it if you can do a warranty or have the funds to replace a $13k motor. Replacement motors on 2013s is very common because of the rod wear issue.

Only problems with the LS7 is thin cylinder liners, the sodum filled valves, and getting it to breath right with the limited room under the hood for a better intake manifold/

The thinner cyclinder walls just means that it can not be boosted to higher levels. So a little boost is perfect, and also solves the breathing problem as well.

As for the soldum filled valves that love to snap and take the motor out, not that hard to have the vavles replaced with SS valves instead. But when the vavles are being replaced, have the shop check the valve guides as well when the heads are off the motor. Hence in most cases, the valve guides needs to be replaced too, since there is too much slop between the valves and the old valve guides.

And yes, swapping the valves on the LS-7 to SS valves is a must do item, since sooner or later, the warranty on the motor is going to run out, and just a mater of time before you snap a sodium filled oem valve to destroy the motor.

So much terrible misinformation given here.....amazingly stupid.

OP ask the Z06 section with actual owners with first hand knowledge.
