Default First impressions of the Force II Axle-back system (part #817512)

I've been running the Force II Axle-back system (part #817512) for about a week now on my 2005 C6 and here are my impressions:

  1. Despite how Flowmaster advertises this system, it is quite a bit louder than stock. The OEM exhaust system on my car was very sedate and I could not even hear the exhaust inside the car, even at idle. The Force II fills the cabin with sound from the moment your fire up the engine.
  2. The only time the Force II approaches stock sound levels is at a steady cruise above 55 mph. There is no drone, and you can hear the exhaust as a faint and distant rumble--which is exactly what I wanted. Step on the gas, however, and you instantly get a nice roar.
  3. The system DOES drone, but only during very slight, part throttle acceleration until up to speed. This is the one problem I have with the system, because most of my driving is around town doing very light acceleration, and this drone is annoying.
After doing some research, I've decided to try replacing the stock H-pipe with the X-pipe from a 2008 C6 (GM #25788211) to try to tone down this low-frequency drone. From what I understand, this is the typical result when switching from an H-pipe to an X-pipe: exhaust sound is a bit more mellow, hi-pitched, and even.

I found a brand new 2008 X-pipe on eBay for $175.00 shipped and once I get it installed, I'll post back with the results. Stay tuned.

I thought that there were differences between LS2 and LS3 car in the exhaust as well. Maybe not

From what I understand, the change occurred in 2009. The 2008 X-pipe is the only one that will work on 05-07 with stock or aftermarket mufflers made to fit the stock H-pipe. This is why the Flowmaster 817512 axle-back system says it will only fit 2005-08 C6s.

The x-pipe came yesterday and I've got an appointment with the shop to install it Monday morning. I would have gotten it done today, but I was in a CLE seminar all day.

I'll post Monday on how much of difference it makes in the sound.

Checking back Gary to see how your x-pipe sounds now compared to stock. I won't be adding an X-pipe, but curious how the sound difference is with these mufflers.
