2006 vert trunk lock
When I bought my Vette it didn't come with a key. I didn't have a clue how important it was to have one until my battery went dead. Luckily, I got the battery charged from underneath at the starter. The key the dealer made from the code didn't work. Long story short, a local locksmith made a new key from scratch for $65. When he finished, he gave me the correct key code, which is no where near what GM has. So if your having trouble getting a key, try a reputable locksmith and they can make you one. Don't trust GM has the correct code for your vin.

Sounds like someone changed the lock mechanism on the trunk for some reason. Not surprising for a ten-year old car.
Does the key work for the glove box (and center console) too?

The new key does work the glove box and console. The locksmith said the first 4 key cuts unlock those, then he had to figure out the rest to unlock the trunk. The trunk lock mech is still riveted in, so I doubt it's been changed. Besides, why change the console and glove box. If a dealer did all that , they would have updated the code.
