Corvette C6 ATI Harmonic Balancer
Good Morning,
During a recent safety inspection at local dealership I was told my harmonic balancer was wobbling (46K Miles). After some research I decided against replacing with a stock balancer due to high failure rate and have elected to go with the ATI Super Balancer... Only want to do the job once.
My car is a 2006 base with LS2 engine.
Here is my question... Which ATI balancer should I purchase... really not racing the car.
The 917246 is the steel balancer which was recommended by the shop who will perform the service.
The 917266 is the aluminum version which was recommended by the ATI tech rep.
The ATI rep also said I would not need to pin the balancer since I have no plans to add a blower...
Would appreciate some advice from members who have experience with the ATI balancers.
Thanks

Burning Brakes
ATI-917246 on 11 G.S. and all is well. Used of ARP crank bolt and followed their torque spec. Allowed me to get away from G.M. (torque to yield) one time bolt.

I have an 05 LS2 and have had an ATI under drive HB on a cammed and headers LS2 for 1 year and 6000 miles with no problems. I would not recommend the under drive for your application. The ATI HB is well known as a high quality piece and the big reason some people don't use them is there are others out there for less money however I think the ATI is one of the best.
Mine is steel I don't see a need for an aluminum HB and would not use one myself. Most of the time especially in flywheels aluminum is used to reduce centrifugal weight so the engine will rev quicker however ther is usually some sacrifice in smoothness. I would guess maybe that's the thought with aluminum HB but not sure.

I used the aluminum, didn't pin it. Have been very happy with it.

go with the steel version and pin the balancer any way.its a 10 minute procedure to do and is dirt cheap.mine is double keyed and double pinned as I am supercharged

'05 at 23K miles... Had the HB wobble and noise,, Went with the 917266 > aluminum version which was recommended by the ATI tech rep.
Best decision I think I made since the OEM would most likely be a job done more than once. No worries with the ATI Super
