Just a bump for your product.. I finally got around to installing my pre-order lens. Fitment was PERFECT.
Also, buy butyl rubber tape.. removing the old epoxy stuff is a huge pain but not impossible. Bake, scrape, bake, scrape. I threw it in my oven at around 250F for 5 min to soften the old stuff.
For butyl rubber, overstuff the gap so that you can actually get a seal. The gap is 1/4" but the 1/4" butyl is not enough. I put two layers of 1/4" on portions of the light where the gap was deeper than other parts, and edges where it takes the most strain.
One last tip: The three bottom screws on the back of the light that have the strange external torx need to be slowly removed as the lens is separated. The clear lens is attached to the colored shroud by 4-5 screws that are internal, and the back of the light is attached to the colored shroud with those three screws. they're mounted to the back of the light so you cant fully remove them until the lens is separating.
on a scale of 1-10 in terms of how difficult it is...i'd say its a solid 7. Its just extremely tedious getting the old glue out.

Did you reuse the rubber gasket on the outside of the lens or get a new one?

A few people have asked us just in the last 3 days about DOT.
The reason for this is pretty obvious, our competitor has thrown around a lot of poo about this and has probably been watching these threads religiously in the hopes that something appears out of place.
Let me be 10000% emphatic about our "claims".
When we first build the lenses, we stamped them with DOT because we knew the factory making these had already been building many headlights with DOT certs. It is of course imperative for the company that is providing the product to you to do the certification not the original manufacturer. When the DOT stamp appeared on GM products, it was because GM paid for the certification.
We already had the certification lab working on our behalf when we got the prototype. That's why we paid $1800 for a real prototype that was production ready. We knew we'd get DOT certification.
Now, if you really need to know which lab it is, it won't take too long to work at researching the name of the person who signed the document and finding the lab. He asked that we not put his name on the list because he's so swamped with work testing for Tesla (model3) and at least 7 other manufacturers that he didn't need the extra work.
So, bottom line, this is the ONLY product on the market that is truly DOT certified. Everything else is just baseless claims and etching, nothing more. You can claim that your car is Moon/Sun/Stars certified but unless you have the paperwork to prove it, it's just hot air.

What's with the over concern with DOT certification? Unless you show up at an inspection station with tinted or cracked lens....no body would even consider the question. Am I wrong on this assumption...since it is an assumption?

Once you go through the certification process, you understand fully why there is a real set of standards out there - not just bureaucratic nonsense paperwork, but real word reasons to have it.
DOT testing - if you look at our posted pic of our docs above - entails making sure the light pattern is good, the output is good, and of course sturdiness of the outer cover (all over-simplified of course).
For us, it was about making sure our customers knew they were getting the absolutely highest quality product without compromises.
For you, it's the knowledge that you are getting the best bang for your buck.
Realistically? no one will likely ever worry about it in Idaho or the more "free" states in our union. But VA, MD, NY are much stricter on passing cars without DOT, so that coupled with Canadian customers needing it...
