Best $15.71 I ever spent
The other day my FOB battery died, so I go into the "junk" drawer to get my spare FOB and guess what it was dead also. After reading some of the post about how hard it can be to get them apart and back together, I called my local dealer and he said he if I buy he batteries there he would install them. 15.71 later I am walking out the door and did not have to worry about breaking any of the plastic parts on the FOB. Took him about 5 minutes to do both of them. I know I could have went to Wal-Mart and got two of them for around 5.00 but worth the extra 10.00 not to have to deal with them.

This goes back over seven years ago. I was having FOB problems and didn't know if it was the FOB battery or the car battery. The car was about a week shy of the end of the warranty. The car battery was bad, and the dealer replaced it under warranty. I asked the service adviser if they could replace the FOB batteries I had brought with me. He quoted me a price of $162. I went to the service manager, and he told me it was all under warranty.

Never heard of paying someone to replace fob batteries.
10 batteries for 4 bucks on ebay gets you a lifetime supply. Gotta be a YouTube video on the world wide web (WWW) to demonstrate the multitude of steps to pop open the case.

There are ton of them on YouTube on how to take them apart and they all start out "be very careful" they are easy to break. I am at the stage of my life that for 10.00 I will let someone else take a chance on breaking it. I have no idea how much a new FOB would be but I look at this as insurance. I will only need one more change of battlers before I will not be driving anymore. (Or who knows what the next kind of FOB will be)

They will install batteries in your FOB at Batteries Plus too.

I did not know this was an issue. I have replaced the batteries in both my fobs and had no issues with breaking anything. Spent $4 on a pack of 5 CR2032 batteries.

Drifting
The last time I replaced the batteries in my '08 I came close to just selling the car. It was a joke. Could not believe how hard it was (for me) This from a guy who can fix most anything that breaks. From an electric mixer to a leaking water pump. My hat is off to all who change them in just a moment with zero problems. Think I'll go to the dealer as well next time.

When I bought my car it only came with one fob, I bought a 2nd fob, and a pack of batteries off ebay, installed batteries and programed it myself no issues. Also just replaced both fob batteries in my wife Lexus today.

For those of you who are letting others replace your battery, do you really think they are just going to buy you a brand new fob if they break it? Really?

Cracked cases
Both of my fob cases cracked with just regular use. I was careful not to carry anything else in the same pocket and my wife just had her's in her purse. I followed the advice of one of the members and epoxied the cracks then purchased silicone covers for them. No problems since then. You would think you would get a better quality part for their flagship car.

The newer style fob is very fragile. The "key" to replacing the battery safely is to make sure the case is warm. NEVER REPLACE THE BATTERY IF THE CASE IS COLD!
The old-style case is very forgiving of all sorts of insults.
