Hmmn, they drop the new car warranty to 5/60 and now this. I have always been a GM guy but my next new car may be a blue oval.

That's just the GMPP offered thru Ally they're dumping, not the Chevrolet-Buick-GMC Protection Plan that they also offer. Those are still available and a better plan anyways.

Gmpp is an ally product. Not a GM product.
GMEPP is the GM warranty that should be purchased. GMEPP is an excellent product...
Buy that.
Part of the shift from the New GM after the financial crisis of 2008..
I highly recommend GMEPP purchase. I've purchased that for all three of my new corvettes from ken fitchner and I bought one for my Cadillac CTS..
They always seem to pay off.
I usually add 4 years for a total of 7 years and 78k miles...
I'm glad this warranty extension is offered.
I now have on my 08 c6 102k miles.
The cars been excellent as has the service of Jackson chevy in Middletown ct.
I never had much issue with the corvette and anything I did have was corrected seamlessly and in a professional timely manner.

Some of you may be a little out of the loop. As noted by jft69z, GMPP is an Ally product, (that long ago was part of GM under GMAC finance) but has not been a GM product for quite some time. GM began their own competing product a bit back (I think about 2 years or so now), and as part of that had already released plans to no longer give Ally/GMPP a license to use the GM name or access to the GM computer systems after 2016. So, none of this is really new information. You can expect GMPP to still pay out your claims, but you may need to submit paperwork as they will no longer be tied to GM's systems (as noted, this was also known). It was a decision by GM to cut off a competitor, and Ally/GMPP was going to have to rebrand starting next year if they wanted to keep offering the plans. While this doesn't say they won't, they may well have decided that offering the plans without the GM name behind them wouldn't work well for them.
The GM plans (formally known as Chevrolet (or Cadillac or Buck or GMC) Extended Protection Plan (and informally known as GMEPP) are very similar to the GMPP plans, and are actually backed by GM. There are some slight differences in coverage, some positive and some negative between the two. Many forum members and GM owners have gad the GMEPP plans for a while now.
I'm not sure why anyone would chose to not buy a GM product, because a (now) completely unrelated 3rd party decided to stop selling an aftermarket extended warranty (really insurance plan)

So what does this mean to me? I have a 2009 with under 50k miles and my GMPP extended warranty ends in December. Can I purchase an extension for my coverage? If so, do I go through Ally's GMPP or can I switch to the GMEPP from GM? Who offers the best deal? Which dealers discount the renewals?
I am just full of questions!

The Ficthners at Denny Menholt Chevrolet (who arethe original posters of this thread) are the best source for pricing, terms, and eligibility and are long time supporting vendors of this forum. They sell both GMEPP and (for now) GMPP.
