Default sway bars & end links

wanting to replace front and rear bars on base c6 vert.(75000mile) making alot of noise. don't want to change the ride too much. took car to my car guy,and he couldn't find the same end links that are on the car. they have a dog bone shape, and are aluminum. replacements are all off set steel rod. (TRW) ABOUT 4" tall. Might want to go to Z51 style, but not sure of how to order, and concerned about ride. any thoughts on what i might do? Did GM change the style of links?
Thanks for any help.
Good Vendors to buy from?

What I have done on several cars is to replace the OEM end links with the LG Motor Sports quite end links. Race car quality and they are much much better than the OEM links that come on the car.

When I had mine replaced under warranty 6 years ago, I was told they were an improved design.

One started making noise again and I replaced it with a $15 no-name from o'reilly auto parts. Works fine and has a lifetime warranty so can swap it out if needed.

If you want the fancy PFADT ones, here is the deal of the day:

Swapping out the sway bars won't really change the ride quality of your car. It will just help remove body roll when turning.

I have the JOC sway bars and love them.

How much play should there be in the rear end links? Last time I had my 2006 C6 base on a lift (unsupported wheels), there was noticeably more play in the rear end links than on the front. On the ground the rears are free to rotate around their vertical axis (this flexing the rubber boots), but there's no up/down slop. Is that how they're meant to be?

I also notice that the movement isn't exactly smooth when I rotate them. Sorry if this has been answered already, but what sort of grease should I put in there? How much torque should I apply?

Why did I check them? At very slow speeds, I hear groaning from the rear suspension when I brake very lightly. Not dramatic, but it just sounds a bit crap.

It may not be the end links - I'm also suspecting bushings in need of lube.

What are your thoughts?

Do you still have original shocks?
Are you at stock height with suspension?
Does this groaning happen in corners?
Dirt in brakes can also cause noises...

I replaced my stock, non Z51 sway bars and the car's handling in the corners improved immensely without sacrificing the base car ride. Cultrag made it easy to order and installation was pretty easy. Here is a link to their end link and sway bar special;

Thanks very much for the reply.

Yes I'm still running stock shocks and the suspension is at stock height. My driveway is quite steep, so I have to take a convoluted, angled approach to get to my garage without scraping the front as it is.

I haven't noticed any groaning in the corners, it's only apparent when braking and only at low speed with very light pressure. I'll take it for a drive on Thursday and see if I can hear any creaking or groaning during enthusiastic cornering.

But yes, it may be worn shocks. I hadn't thought about dirt inside the brakes. I'm in CA so it gets pretty dusty during the summer, so I'll try stripping and cleaning them this weekend.

Those Cultrag upgrades look very, very good. I'm tempted to upgrade anyway. I'm constantly amazed how reasonable the prices are for Vette parts!

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.

I have a feeling cleaning the brakes will solve your noise.
I have done the Cultrag upgrades, as well as a ZO6 rear spring, the difference is amazing.
Best of luck.Chop

By your profile, you seem to have had your car for only a short time. Some parts, yes, are fairly inexpensive. Others, not so much. Good thing there are a lot of vendors out there that supply us parts. Now, aftermarket parts, that is a different story.

The more I think about it, the more I think that's going to be the case. I'll have a go at them at the weekend and see how it works out.

Thanks for the recommendations on the Cultrag parts. I can imagine they'll really help stiffen things up. I'm going to look into those, but it might need to wait until after Christmas. I've got a lot of work going on right now.

Yes, I've only had it for just over a week, so it's all new to me and I've got a lot of learning to do. One of the attractions that led me towards getting a Corvette is the serviceability, which includes the availability of good vendors and this excellent forum. The forum helped me enormously with getting a good used car in the first place, and I'm sure it's going to help me find the source of the common problems that inevitably come up when dealing with a 10 year old car.

But I'm 100% sure I'll have some nasty surprises with prices at some point!

Call Gene or Patrick at Cultrag. They are very long time forum vendors here. Very trusted, and very experienced. Tell them what you're driving and what you would like for the end result. They will make proper recommendations and sell you what you need based upon your wants. It'll be GM parts. You'll be happy and they will last you a very long time, for not a lot of money.
