08 c6 trunk button

Burning Brakes
Over time the hatch button becomes saturated with road grime rendering it inoperative.
Removing the button, disassembling, cleaning and reinstalling it frequently fixes the problem.
Otherwise the button requires replacement.

Reported here frequently, so it must be a common problem.

Thanks!
Just started acting up on my '08, plan having it addressed next Spring while getting oil changed. If I didn't have a GMEPP, this tutorial would be a slam dunk solution.
One thing to all who'd do this, though.
Be very careful not to allow rear light housing clips to fall down inside rear bumper when removing housing.
Clips fit over plastic tab(s), what light housing screws attach to.
Very easy to accidentally knock one or more of 'em off & gravity sends 'em straight down into an abyss. Real PITA trying to retrieve.

There was a sticky, however the original post no longer has the pictures due to Photobucket restrictions. I went ahead and updated the sticky with the PDF above giving credit to KnobJockey for posting. I hope I did good...here's the link to the sticky;

I saved it from a C6 Gen Forum thread in 2009 and can't even begin to remember the author.
Photobucket's recent change/restrictions is going to wreak havoc with a lot of the useful information that was previously posted here.

Made my night, finding this fix. Five minutes and I have a working switch. Just replaced with new, I gave myself a good deal. #is 25853500 suggested retail is $27.48 but some dealers do try and get inflated list on some parts.

A weak fob battery seems to show up first for me when trying to open the hatch. The relation of my pocket with the fob to the antenna location is different (farther) than the door antenna. I keep thinking about cleaning the switch, but in 10 years and 150K miles it's still working fine when the fob battery is good.
Not saying that's the cause here, but it's something else to check.

Performed the cleaning procedure on mine last month, still working great. If I'm not mistaken, I think my Tahoe has the same button for the rear window, I'll have to pull that out and clean it as well.

Let us know if it's the same switch, Chevy probably sells it for 1/3 the price.
