Guys, I’ve read the manual and the office is closed over the weekend for my inquiry so I wanted to see if anyone here using QJ has any experience with storing a vehicle raised in the locked position, then disconnecting the hydraulic lines to leave this way over the winter. I want to remove the wheels/tires and store them in the basement and would prefer not to use jackstands. (If you use jackstands, the lifts would have to remain in a raised position since you cannot lower them without weight on them.) If anyone has experience with this, please let me know. I prefer not to go through the hassle of using a regular jack and jack stands.

FYI- the manual was not specific on disconnecting the lines when the locks are engaged (just when not locked, which you should not do).

Its not going to matter whether you have the hydraulic lines connected or not if the car is sitting on the locks. There's no stress/pressure on the hydraulic system like that.

The reason they say not to leave it on the lift without the locks engaged is because it can leak down slowly, or even rapidly if there's a failure. Its not safe that way.

Just what he said The locks are mechanical so if they are engaged properly the jacks cannot lower.

I disconnect mine all the time and leave the car in either locked position, I just make sure that the rubber covers are on all the connectors after disconnecting. Only thing you have to remember to do is to hold the "Lower" button down with power still applied to the pump so that all the pressure is relieved once in the locked position for a couple of seconds.

Another thing is when plugging all the lines back together, sometimes when plugging the connectors into the pump I have found that it makes it so much easier to hold the lower button down so that any pressure is relieved, just makes it so much easier than fighting any residual pressure if there is any. I also stick the connector end up into the jack to keep it off of the floor so even with the covers installed it doesn't collect sand and crap on the connector.

This is exactly what the Quickjack is designed for, I had mine in the air for many months when I was working on it.

I used mine for storage also, just remember to pump up the air cylinders to lower. I had mine up for at least 5 months, and realized it won't lower with out that...

I do it all the time with mine to get the hoses and hydraulic unit out of the way. Just lower to either locked position and unhook from the hydraulic unit, then unhook from the jacks. When you're ready to reconnect, just connect to the jacks, then connect to the hydraulic unit. You may have to plug in the hydraulic unit and press the Down button to allow connection. Other than that it's quite easy.

I was always of the school that you don’t leave a car on jackstands for long periods. Better to leave it on the tires

What are you gaining storing the tires in your basement?

Put a few extra psi in the tires and park the car for the winter. Do no start the car until spring.

I've been doing that for decades in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area.

I’ve done this plenty times on a few cars of mine with my quickjacks over the years when storing either over winter for for big builds.

Hey everyone with a Q.J... I'm looking to get one asap and have a question for all,,, looking at getting the 5000TL. Claims to lift 5000 lbs. I plan to use it for my Vette which I know is light enough but have a GMC Yukon XL and Sierra PU and think they are both heavier than 5000 lbs? Can you use only one side at a time of the Q.J or do you guys think it'll lift the truck and SUV? Sorry if this is hi-jacking the OP thread...

you cannot use one side at a time. I would not use the 5000 if your vehicle weighs more than that.

I ordered the 7000TL, I have got half the shipment so far. I got that so I can use for Vette, SUV and my Truck. I would not use the 5000 for the other two.

I would suggest closely reading ALL of the info on the Quickjack website. This is a potentially dangerous situation you could put yourself in if you don’t understand how the unit works i.e. using one side at a time or not following the manufacturers weight limits. No offense meant but you should understand what you want the thing to do and then follow the instructions.

Absolutely, I just ordered it yesterday, that's why I was asking you guys who know more about it then I do, what I've read was the 7000 wouldn't work ( maybe to long?) on my other cars. I've got 5 cars, two trucks, so I'll use it mainly on the cars. So doesn't look like I'll even attempt to use it on the SUV/truck but was nervous on getting the 7000 and not able to use on the cars? Any one have the 7000 that could verify it works on the Vette?

Where did you read it wouldn't work? If you look on youtube there are actual videos of people showing it works on their C6.I am still waiting on one rail of my 7000 to come. I did my research prior and all that I found says it works.

All winter long not a problem. I won't take her off the jacks until May 2023

Locks in place good to go! The manual says you can leave it on the jacks indefinitly.
