Default Using a battery tender while the car is connected to the battery?

I had a dead battery and got a new one at autozone. The gentlemen who helped me recommended getting a tender. He said to simply connect the clips or alligator clamps to the battery and plug in the tender. During my ride home I realized that he never said whether or not to disconnect the car from the battery. After reading the tender manual, it also doesn't say. So my million dollar question is, when using a tender do you connect the tender to the battery while the car is still connected or do you disconnect the battery and then put on the tender? At this moment I have my vet disconnected from the battery while using the tender.

I leave my Vette connected to the battery. I believe many tender manufactures make kits so you can have a plug hanging somewhere to simply plug the tender in without having to fuss with the clips or open the hood. So no worries about leaving the car connected to the battery while tending.

I dont disconnect.. I use a tender that plugs into the power plug... which is the cigarette lighter plug... just leave it till I want to drive - just unplug it -- I unplug the ac power source first tho. this is the easiest way,..

Just clip on the tender, no need to disconnect the battery.

Our CTEK Corvette-branded tender has a cigarette-lighter plug for easy connection, and of course I don't disconnect the battery.

The only time you would disconnect it is in cold climates.

Pull the battery indoors and put it in the laundry room or something on the tender.

Why -- what does cold have to do with it?

Don't disconnect the battery from the car.. Get a decent tender (Most of us use the CTEK).. Spring for a few extra bucks for the cigarette lighter/power adapter connector and simply plug it in there for the winter.. Works good, lasts long time.. No brainer..

This is exactly how I have my GS connected.

Question for those of you plugging into the power outlet inside the car...how do you route the cord? Do you crack a window open? Just curious.

I leave my window open but there is a slot on the bottom door sill that lets the cord go in without pinching if you want to do it that way.

Yes.. the channel in the door sill is perfect for running the power cord to the charger.. Closes perfectly, and doesn't pinch the wire..

Hard wired to the battery as shown, I bought an extension (12 ft. IIRC) and ran it down and out the front in the grill opening, secured with zip ties. Just back it in the garage, remove the cap and plug in the tender, good to go all the time!

Why ? Just put the battery tender on it for the winter.
If you're taking the battery out; set it on a piece of wood not on a concrete floor. Don't ask me why , it's an old wives tale and I'm not gonna argue
