Lots of aftermarket solutions. I would recommend the removable setup by Top Flight Reproductions at www.topflightrepro.com.

After much research and deliberation, this is the one I've settled on:

Stays out of the airflow, is easily and quickly removed, and does't make the car look like it has something stuck in its teeth! This one is for the GS/Z06 but they also have one for the base cars. I plan to install it this winter but leave the plate in the back until a LEO suggests I put it on. I got pulled over for not having the front plate on my C4 so they do tend to look at it around here.

No offense meant but these things get uglier with each new design. When I needed one, I used TopFlight. Never had any issues with air flow. If you do intend to take it to the track, take the plate off.
When we moved I told my wife, better be a state with only one plate.

I have one similar to that, offset from center, low & quick release. Guess we are the minority. I just don't care for the ones stuck in the middle of the grill.

They have a front license plate bracket for the base model or GS. I have had the base model on my 2009 and now have the GS model on my 2011 GS.
Good product. Good Customer Service.

My "excuse" is plausible... I do have the actual plate in-hand (so to speak) and it's on in very little time.
I was going to go with the mechanical "stowaway" type but found two things.... 1) on a C6, the "pointy" nose make installation centered to front a problem... and 2) adding the mechanical stuff would become a scrapping problem.
The Topflight solution is very well thought out and easy to install (IMHO).

You live in a border town. The farther into Texas you go, the more they care. I also live on the border in Texas with a state that doesn't have front plate nonsense and you can get away with it here also. However my Vette has the GM plate holder already stuck to my bumper. With a smoked cover, it looks better than any of the other options IMHO and isn't in the way of airflow. Someday if Texas upgrades to a single plate, I might have work to do though.

Melting Slicks
Here in the People's Republic of California I have gotten two fix-its in the last six years for no front license plate. Prior to that I drove cars without front plates for about 25 years here without one thing being said. I think it has to do with the intersection cameras they use now. The last one was with my C6, so I bought one of the Stop N Sho units. It's easy to install, easy to remove and easy to put back on the car. I never have it on the car but I have it behind the passenger seat.
