Key fob issue

Key fob issue
Went to start my 05 this morning and it said it didn't recognize the fob and wouldn't detect my second one either. I put first one in the glovebox slot and it started. Bought a new fob battery thinking maybe this was it but to no avail. So I decided to reprogram the fobs using the procedure in the manual. Everything went fine - went through the 30 minute sequence, put in the two fobs, then stopped the programming according to manual. Now, not only will it not detect the fobs, it won't detect them in the glovebox slot either so now my car is stuck in the garage unable to be started.
EDIT - I disconnected battery for a while and now the slot will recognize the fobs but the car will only start while fob is in slot
The fobs will lock and unlock doors but car will not recognize them otherwise
What could have went wrong?

One possibility is weak fob batteries, even though they were new. Try buying new fob batteries from a different source.
From past experience recorded here from other forum members, sometimes weak fob signals will lock and unlock the car, but that's all.
The slot in the glove box will allow a fob that's programmed for the car to start the car, even if the battery in the fob is completely dead.

Be sure you don't have a cell phone plugged into the DC power slot in the console. Also be sure your car is not sitting somewhere near a strong electronic signal outside the car.
And you're not trying to start the car with the fob in your pocket with something else in the same pocket blocking the signal from the fob.

Since the car starts with the fob in the glove box it's definitely a fob battery problem (that is if there are no other signals interfering ). One thing that everyone should remember is if the car starts or used to start you NEVER need to do any programming to the fob. Check the contacts in the fob where they touch the battery and bend them a bit so they make good contact.

My guess at this time is that the batteries are upside down, there is a loose connection, or you put the clip in the wrong position.
I want to reiterate what EVRose said about not reprogramming the fobs. Fobs NEVER randomly become unprogrammed. It takes very specific steps and over a half hour to make recognized fob become unrecognized.

Ok, batteries aren't in upside down and I didn't put the clip in backwards (as an electrical engineer I'm not a total dunce when it comes to electronics lol). Plus, if the battery was in backwards, it wouldn't unlock the doors - which it does. It could be a loose connection but I'm not going to start diagnostics on it. I will take it to the dealership and let them fix it - then it's will be traded ASAP. This is my 7th Corvette (currently own 4) and is by far the worst one I have ever owned.

70k miles. harmonic balancer had to be replaced as it was in the VIN range ($1200). Constant problems with the fuel door release, fog lights won't work and has been identified as a BCM ($1100 repair which I refused), driver 1 and driver 2 memories don't always "remember", "check fuel system" error if you ever fill it up all the way and now these 2 fob issues. Just getting tired of it.

Very sorry for all the issues that you have had with the car. At 70K there would be no warranty left unless you had a 100K warranty so any fix would be out of pocket. From reading the thread it sounds like all the obvious things have been addressed but have not fixed the problem. It sounds like it may be time to move the car on down the road and find a nice one owner low mile C-6 that you can enjoy and not worry about.

70K is nothing for that car! Find someone that can fix your problem and enjoy the car for many years to come. I'll guarantee that it'll be cheaper to fix the problem than run out and buy another car!

I think you are picking up electrical interference from something inside the car. I had the same problem with mine, and when I had the console out, I noticed that the 12V wires to both cigarette outlets (the one in the ashtray and the one in the console) were not shielded. Sooo, I wrapped them with aluminum foil (all the way to under the dash), and knock on wood, have not had a FOB issue for a couple months. My USB charger in the console was my suspect interference.
Something to try if it happens again.....

It could be but when I started having this issue yesterday morning, I removed phones, chargers, etc. in hopes of finding resolution. Maybe it just took a while to get the system back to normal. It is working fine as of this morning - my daughter is taking it out of town for the weekend so hopefully it will stay operating properly; however, I have shown her all the emergency steps in case of issues.
Thanks

Also, the battery has been installed wrong many, many times here on the forum, so asking to re-affirm proper install is not unreasonable.
