Just tossed mine in the cup holder for the longest time.
Now I have a scosche magnetic mount stuck to the dash between the Option DIC button and the radio bezel. Had to use adhesion promoter to get it to stay. But NO permanent damage and it's RIGHT THERE for texts/alerts/navigation. Plus, I made a magnetic phone stand for my office and at home using a similar, flush mount magnet from scosche. I'll take some pictures when I can. Just put the metal plate between the phone and case. Sticks much better than the size of the mount would suggest. Most everybody that I show orders one immediately.

I've got a cell phone holder mounted to a base that fits right into the cupholder. Very stable, nothing mounted permanently to dash or phone. When I need both cupholders I just place it in the back. About $20 . . . think I got it at BJs or Target but sure its on Amazon too.
I don't think I've ever seen a stock radio that looked like that. What year is your car? Or maybe I just can't remember since I've had an aftermarket one for about 3 years.
